In the midst of the blogging summer slump (more on that Thursday) I’m opting for a fun survey. Fluff content, sure, but no one can dispute that surveys are fun to read….and answer. I have some newer readers so I’d love to get to know everyone too. Chime in with a few responses in the comments.
Jen from Peanut Butter Runner posted this survey a few weeks ago…thanks, Jen! I changed a few of the questions.
16 Getting to Know Me Things
1. What brings you the greatest joy?
Spending time with my family and friends. Pretty clichĂ© but it’s the absolute truth. Also…a good run, time in the sun, Eagles football (preferably a win) and a home cooked meal.
2. What are your vices?
Nut butter (I always “need” another jar), Lululemon and naps. I haven’t been so heavy with the napping lately, but give me a lazy afternoon and I’m golden.
3. What is on your nightstand?
I don’t have a nightstand because my desk is close enough to my bed that I just use a corner of it for “night-time” things. But I keep my charger, lavender pillow spray, a notepad and pen close by.
4. Do you have a secret talent?
I have bionic hearing…when I choose to listen.
5. What should everyone try at least once in their life?
Yoga! One day I’ll get my dad to a class.
6.What makes you laugh?
My dogs, my sister (not in a mean way, she’s actually funny), Jimmy Fallon/Kimmel. Lately it’s been more Kimmel.
7. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Two things: I’ve never been skiing (yet I lived in the Northeast for 10 years) and, I might have mentioned this, but I hate mushy food. Mashed potatoes are a no go…it’s a texture thing.
8. What is on your bucket list?
Traveling! Isn’t that on almost everyone’s? I definitely want to visit all 50 states for sure. It would be great to run a half marathon in all of them too. If we’re talking specifics…the Pacific Northwest is atop my list.
9. What is on your feet right now?
Surprisingly, MATCHING socks.
10. How did you make your first dollar?
Babysitting. I think I started at 11 or 12 years old watching some younger next-door neighbors. Aaaaand the babysitting/nannying has never stopped. But I love kids and think it’s an awesome way to make money.
11. What superstition do you believe in?
Penny heads up…PICK THAT DAMN THING UP! Actually, when I see a penny that’s tail’s-up, I deliberately stop to flip it so someone else gets the luck. That might defeat the purpose of it naturally landing on heads but it can be a pseudo-effect. That’s what superstition kind of is, right? But I also won’t walk under a ladder. Safety reasons ;)
12. What sports did you play in high school (if any)?
I ran cross-country until my senior year. Love-hate relationship ;)
13. What items in your closet do you wear the most?
Well, I don’t keep my workout/lounge clothes in my closet, but those get the most wear in general. In my actual closet I’d say my Tory Burch riding boots and Paige jeans.
14. What is the best gift you’ve ever received?
The most memorable (and often the best) gifts have always been unexpected gestures: my grandparents coming to my graduation, everyone in my family going to OrangeTheory with me for my birthday one year, care packages filled with nut butter and congratulatory flowers from friends. (Flowers are an instant mood-booster for me).
15. What is on your kitchen counter?
A few appliances I don’t use, like the coffee pot and toaster (not GF), but we also have a KitchenAid mixer, knives, cutting boards, olive oils and a Blendtec. We really don’t have a lot of counter space but just cram things together.
16. What would you never leave home without?
I’d say my phone but I (somehow) forgot it all day Sunday and survived for 6 hours just fine. Still, 99% of the time I have that, my keys, a water, wallet and a sweater.
I love this! And you. Because obviously.
Bucket list. Hmmmm. I would love to go back to Europe. I adore Europe. Otherwise, right now I’m so focused on life goals (rather than bucket list items) that I am having trouble coming up with them!
I would love to write a book. I think. I say that, but I don’t know! Lol

I’ve never been skiing either! Haha! We even had a huge popular ski club in school, people are crazy about it here, me? No so much! I’ll stay nice and warm inside (however I do want to go snowboarding!)
Nut butter (I always “need” another jar) —–<<<< TRUTH!
Haha! I won't even TOUCH a tails up penny! So I give you props for flipping them :P

On my bucket list is to travel Europe! My brother is getting back from his travels to Greece over the summer and I know as soon as he shows me all his pictures and shares his stories I am going to want to go even more. I also want to see the Olympics one year since I am obsessed with them haha

I do not have a nightstand either – I use my carry on suitcase, cause I am an adult, promise!

Love this! Sharing fun facts is always a way to break up the daily grind. I ran cross country too! and track, but that was VERY short lived since I ran the 3200 (2 miles). Eight laps gets rather tedious and boring…:P My counter space is about the same. Only the essentials stay! Coffee maker, brita pitcher, and ninja mixer. I’m right there with ya on the simple joys. Can’t beat a good run, a home-cooked meal, and good company!
I couldn’t do track for that exact reason! So boring.
Love that your family went with you to OTF on your birthday!

Took some serious encouragement (read: bribery with lunch after).
Wow that care package from your friends is epic! :) And I’m so much like you Em. I love spending time with my family. I’m really simple about what makes me happy and fills me with joy. It’s just such a blessing to be with our families. I really love learning all this about you, and I hope you can get in some more states travel this year. What states have you gone to? I couldn’t help but smile on ‘what’s on your feet’ cause I’m almost always wearing mis-matching socks. :D

I’ve been to 25 states so I’m half way there! Most of the ones I haven’t been to are in the middle of the country.
Naturally I’m filling out this survey because you filled out this survey. I love how close you and your family are. Come to the northeast and I’ll teach you to ski! Hahaha just kidding, I’d be the worst teacher in the world actually.
Sarah @pickyrunner recently posted…Racing, Car Troubles, and Sailing
DO IT.
And I wouldn’t know either way if you were a good instructor or not. I’d take instructions blindly haha
Pacific Northwest… yessss I’m obsessed! The #1 thing on my bucket list is to travel to Australia. Like so, so, so bad. And go skydiving:) I love this survey and am for sure filling it out soon!
Amanda @ ExploringLifeAndThings recently posted…Days in the Dells
Come with me? ;)
I want to go to Australia eventually, but I think I’ll have to be drugged for the long flight haha
Nut butter-filled care packages are the best! 100% yes to traveling. I want to go everywhere, pretty much. And I’m a little sad I’ve worn my favorite Paige jeans pretty thin over the last two years… that just means I should get more, right? ;)
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday recently posted…Five Friday Favorites 07/22/16
I need a new pair of Paige jeans. Mine are so old! But still really comfortable and fit well!
I love reading these!
People would be surprised to know that…I’m obsessed with Mormon clothing brands. Lol. I love midi dresses with sleeves and Mormon companies and boutiques (Sonnet James, Roolee, LulaRoe) have the cutest dresses!
My bucket list is to BQ next spring, then, over the next couple years, run a 24 hour race, then run a 100 miler! I’m halfway there, one 50 miler under my belt. Big dreams. ;-)
You need to ski! I started skiing when I was little, then thought I was way too cool and became a snowboarder. Lame. Skiing is so much more fun! My husband did it for the first time with me about 4 years ago and he refused to take a lesson…after we got off the ski lift I couldn’t find him because he had gone down so fast…until I saw him tangled up in a snowblower machine. He was fine. But I almost rolled down the mountain laughing.

Your bucket list is seriously impressive! So exiting!
Funny about the skiing/snowboarding. I’ve heard both are hard so I’ll start with the easiest…and take a lesson ;)
Loved this Emily! On my bucket list for the next year is to do a service trip, travel to Colorado and hike, and meet up with some blogging friends!
Alyssa recently posted…Day in the life Video: 7/25/16
Those all sound like wonderful things! Hiking in Colorado sounds right up my alley.
Same on having a sweater with me at all times! Nothing is worse than being cold!
Seriously! Mostly every place in Florida has really strong A/C so it’s necessary.
Mind if I steal this!? I have a crazy urge to do a survey lately!!! This one is so fun and a great way to share some unique things about yourself! <3
It’s not mine to steal! Go for it.
I love getting to know you better :D One thing on my bucket list would be to try stand up paddle boarding. It looks like so much fun! I’m pretty unco-ordinated though so I’m not too sure how it would go.
Megan recently posted…Chocolate hazelnut biscotti
I LOVE stand up paddle boarding! I think you’d be surprised that it doesn’t require too much coordination (if you go slow and paddle in calm waters). Start kneeling too!
I love reading other people’s answers to these questions!I made my first dollar babysitting, too, and agree that it’s the best job! SO flexible, no uniform, no taxes..it’s great! :)
Liv @ Healthy Liv recently posted…Atlanta Adventures
No taxes…I could stop right there haha
I feel you on always needing another nut butter jar. I just finished my third jar for this week (not eating three whole jars though hahaha) and as I went to write this comment I was interrupted by a courier delivering an iHerb package with three more jars :P
I hateeeeee mashed potatoes and mushy food too!
One thing on my bucket list.. hmm! I have many but one that’s kind of unusual is that I really want to build a piece of furniture from scratch!
Kristy from Southern In Law recently posted…How to Balance Work and Life Without Going Crazy
Getting food in the mail is just awesome. I love that we can do that now! I’m glad I have a fellow mushy food hater too :)
I’ve never been skiiing either and also live in the North East! We’re just so disappointing to our fellow New Englanders, haha! On my bucket list is soooo many things, but in the nearest future, it’s probably visiting some national parks like the Grand Canyon! It’s calling my name.

I would love to revisit the Grand Canyon! I went in second grade so my memory isn’t too good.
Your entire family went to Orange Theory! That is an awesome bday gift. Love it! I slept with a teddy bear until I got married ;) That first night was rough, haha.

Two of three of my family members complained the entire time but I loved having them in class :)
Haha, yes to Lululemon. And one just opened up in our local mall sooo there goes my money :P
One thing someone might be surprised to know about me is that I’m (or was, anyways) an origami pro! I used to know a few dozen shapes by memory and taught it at international festivals in middle/high school.
Claire @ My Pink & Green Life recently posted…Zucchini Walnut Muffins {Gluten-free, dairy-free, & refined sugar-free}
Claire that’s so cool! I remember I had an origami book when I was younger and played around with a few shapes (wasn’t ever too good at it).
I love nut butter and naps too! We may have been twins in another life ;) One thing about me is that I can’t swim. I’ve tried to learn, but just can’t get the hang of it. That is definitely on my bucket list.
Edye recently posted…Thinking Out Loud: Work, Work, Cookies…
I can swim but I’m not super great! I would love to casually swim laps and not feel out of breath.
If you run a half marathon in every state, I really hope you’re still blogging when you do it, because I’d love to follow along that journey!

This is awesome girl! So fun learning more about you! And yay for nut butters! They’re so good. Also, I’ve totally picked up pennies to flip them when their tails up! <3 I love that you do that and I definitely need to do it more!
