2017 in Headlines + Looking Ahead

01/02/18 | Featured, Life

Happy New Year! I hope your team won their Bowl game (mine didn’t) and that all negative temps have risen.

Last year I squeezed out a 2016 recap at the last-minute, mainly because I felt some obligation as a human to reflect. The end of the year is also my birthday so I’m often overwhelmed by the “new year” mindset. This year I didn’t want to do the whole shebang—I felt as though I had nothing concrete to share. If 2016 was my year of funemployment, filled with a lot of free time, different activities and travel, 2017 was my year of employment, filled with zero free time and the same activity (work), but still some travel. And a hurricane. There was a hurricane in 2017 and I will never let my out-of-state-living sister forget it.

2018 will look very similar to the “employment” year, yet this go-around I’m a whole year wiser. I wish that meant I had the system figured out or something cooler/bigger/better than it does. I won’t re-write all my thoughts and feelings here (see this post) but I’m hopeful that 2018 will leave more energy and enthusiasm for life outside of work—and more optimism for my professional future. TBD. I know I need to be SMART to make shit happen.

In looking at 2017 though, I thought it would be fun to summarize my year in headlines. Here’s what some of them would be…

Long-Weekend Trips Rack Up Southwest Miles

I visited California, Pennsylvania x2 and Auburn

A Hop Across The Pond Does Not Allow for Tea With The Queen

My family and I visited London and Ireland over the summer and I will definitely return. The Queen and I have an arrangement.

Irma Tries To Crash The Party

She did, but luckily she didn’t out-stay her non-invite.

Miracle With The Marines

I ran my third marathon this year. While I definitely put in the work, the “miracle” was the time on the clock and the fact that I finished feeling 100%.

Check Out Those New Wheels

I made my first big-girl purchase—a new car! Proud to say it’s still as clean as it was the day I bought it in August.

She Whips Less Hair Back And Forth

I chopped some of my long-locks off and wondered why I hadn’t done the snipping sooner.

Bringing Back The Boot

Unfortunately, The Boot (injury) was part of my life in 2017. I’d rather it never be a thing but my high arches had other plans.

Eloise Leaves The Plaza

Like I shared in the last post, my family and I are moving out of the hotel where we’ve lived for nine years. This technically happens in 2018 though.

Wentz Leads The Eagles To A Division Title—Then Tears ACL and Ruins Christmas and Kills All Hopes and Puts Philly in Mourning

Anyone who has spoken to me in 2017 has likely heard me talk about the Eagles. And then heard me mourn our QB getting injured. Such is life of an Eagles fan.

Woman Spends Salary at Whole Foods

Not specific to 2017. Will definitely continue in 2018.

In 364 days, I hope I can look back and have one of the following headlines:

23-Year-Old Wins Lottery
23-Year-Old Continues Living Her Healthyish Life (And Gets Even Happier)

I’m feeling pretty good about these possibilities.

What would your 2017 headline be?

Do you make new year’s resolutions? My only one is to take better care of my skin

Happy New Year friend! I typically try to stay away from making New Year’s resolutions. I like to set small weekly goals to keep me inspired, energized, and to not get too bogged down with big unattainable New Year resolutions. Does that make sense? Can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for you…XOXO

Love how you did your year wrap-up post! So original and clever. I’m happy that you got through Irma and everything else (missed a few posts including the hotel one! That’s so awesome!!). I also have to check out your post on Ireland since I’m traveling there this year :) Hope that 2018 is a good one for you and your family!

Haha I love the headlines. We know that mine would start with Go Yoshi Go and there would be one about My Miracle Baby. Also, something about breaking myself. Finally, #beachedwhale sighting lol
