I’m working a few days behind but I want to recap my quick trip to Chicago..starting with Tuesday!
Tuesday was a jam-packed day starting at 6 a.m. with a 6 mile run. I switched up my running days because of my trip so Wednesday (and Thursday) will be rest days instead. Tomorrow I’ll explain why I visited Chicago but for now, I wanted to share highlights from my first day here.
I had a 10 a.m. flight and from there had to take 2 trains and walk a few blocks to get to the hotel. Why oh why is the airport so far from the city? But I actually really enjoy figuring out a city and it’s transportation system by myself so that was no big deal. When I arrived at the hotel I ate a lunch I packed from home and then headed right back out the door to explore. I had 3 hours until I had to start getting ready for the welcome reception so instead of napping I decided to wander the city. Man, Chicago is awesome! I’ve been here twice before but this was my first real opportunity to see the city.
Even though I’m not normally a shopper I went into about 10 stores and browsed the aisles. Funny thing, the only purchase I made during the trip was at Whole Foods. Of course I was going to find a Whole Foods while I was here ;)
Then I went to Macy’s intending to shop for clothes but was enthralled by their dining options. Seriously, does this look like Macy’s food to you? So much of it was gluten-free, too!
I walked by the American Girl Store, which was my obsession from ages 5-10, and snapped a quick selfie to send to my parents.
I loved how all the major stores were concentrated in one area so I could hit a bunch of places in a shorter time. I never made it to The Bean because my feet were not happy in my sandals, but I heard that’s a cool/touristy site.
For being the Windy City, Chicago was so hot and humid on Tuesday. I packed jackets expecting it to be chilly! Oops. The city is so beautiful, clean and filled with what smell like amazing restaurants. Chicago, you’re moving up on my list!
I’ll be back at ya tomorrow with the #kindawesome happenings from Wednesday.
I went to the American Girl Store in Chicago when I was younger and it was seriously so awesome! I’m pretty sure I was in like 8th grade the second time I went but I was excited still. It brings you back to your childhood and during our time, American Girl dolls were all the rage. I still have mine in my closet!
I still have all of my American Girl dolls, too! I want to save them for my future daughters but they probably won’t be “in style” by then. The store is a fun experience though.
