Fact: the saying “the dog days of summer” has nothing to do with those really hot, lazy summer days when dogs theoretically lie on the ground panting. Instead, it refers to the rising of the dog star, Sirius. Did anyone else immediately think of Harry Potter too? (Source).
Over the years the saying has obviously taken on a new meaning and we (or at least I) use it to describe the days toward the end of summer when the heat is so unbearable that you don’t want to do anything but stay inside all day. And take naps. And drink smoothies. And take more naps. Just me?
Well, these dog days are hitting me full force this year. Add on marathon training in the Florida heat and I’m beat come dinner time. Actually, more like after lunch time, if we’re being honest. This lack of motivation is carrying over to blogging and I’m in a little inspiration/creativity funk. I don’t know if something will “click” when I’m back at school but I’m hoping I get a burst of energy because (unfortunately) I can’t put off homework and studying like I’ve been blogging.
With that said, the blog isn’t going anywhere, but posts might be more sporadic for the next week or so. Who knows, I might churn out a weeks worth of posts now that I say that, but I’m not putting any pressure on myself to do so.
While I get over my heat-funk, here is a new playlist with some of my favorite songs as of late.
I always love when people share playlists! Can’t wait to listen to this one :) If I ever get in a funk I just think of how miserable the winter will be and try to enjoy the warm weather. That usually works!
I have a lab/beagle named Selma who is the best.
Thinking about winter would do it for me if I lived up north. Sadly I look forward to the cooler months- ha!
I’m with you on feeling like you’re in a funk. I think summer is getting to me, among other things, but the heat makes life harder somehow. I think whenever I say I’m going to take a break from blogging or post more sporadically, I suddenly have a million topics to write about. But I’m kind of in a similar stage as you right now feeling like I’m floundering without much inspiration for posts. They always come when we least expect it!

Seriously. Example A: the fact that I wrote a post for today right after saying I was in a funk. Weird!
I always am looking for new music and love some of these! Totally feel you with not having the inspiration or energy to blog sometimes. I feel like even marathon training in itself feels like a job! Also, I was thinking about you in NYC this weekend and wishing you were still there so I could’ve met you in person!

I so wish I could have met up with you! I’m due for a trip to California though :)
I love that Elle King song. My bf actually got me into it-it’s super fun to belt! I’m beat too-as we’ve discussed on twitter. Just pretty much want to stay in PJs and nap, eat, Netflix. I’m going back to school so it all must end next week!

I love it too! Did you know she’s Rob Schneider’s daughter? Fun fact of the day. And yes, you described exactly how I’m feeling.
Those are some good songs! Adding a few to my workout playlist.. I’ve been struggling to find new songs for the gym!

Glad you like them! They’ve been great on my last few runs.
These days just make me kinda sad….I’d rather just begin school right now then wait a few more weeks of this weird ending :P
When I was a baby we had a Cocker Spaniel!

It’s a weird in-between phase of summer and school. It’s ending for me this weekend but now I don’t know if I’m ready!
Great post (as always)! You have an awesome taste in music! I love “Sugar” by Maroon 5 too. It’s my running/workout JAM!!!
Love that one! I tend to include a variety of songs/genres in my workout playlists so I don’t get bored (especially of the ones that are always on the radio).
Sirius= Harry Potter! (He is actually one of my favourite characters). 5 Seconds of Summer always lift my mood too- I still like their cover of ‘What I Like About You’ even though it was released a while ago.
Marathon training is physically and mentally exhausting and you seem to be nailing it at the moment so don’t beat yourself up about summer funk. Your blog is best when you are ‘doing you’ so write what you feel like when you feel like it! :)

Thanks for your sweet words, Charlotte. I love so many songs by 5 Seconds of Summer because they are upbeat and fun to sing (even while running- ha).
Yes, the end of summer is such a weird time! I feel like there’s not much time left to do “summer” activities, but the heat and humidity still make training a suckfest. I can’t wait for fall to hit and feel a little more human.

Exactly! At this point I just want to rip the bandaid off and start school already to mentally get out of the summer mode.
hi! Love this playlist– is there anyway you can post a brief description of what you did for each song? :)
Hi Steph! Thanks for your comment. I just used this playlist for a steady state run. I will be back to posting Spinning playlists in the next week or so and I will be sure to put a description for each song :)
