Easter Weekend Top 10

03/28/16 | Holiday, Life, Weekend Recap

I’m sitting on the couch after eating second dinner (God bless leftovers) and feeling very fortunate for family, strong faith and nourishing food. Compared to last year’s Easter, this one was much more my style.

A few Easter weekend highlights, in chronological order:

1. A 10 mile run with family friends. 10 miles isn’t too far but, excluding the half last month, it’s the farthest I’ve run since October.

2. Decorating eggs with my sister and mom. Mine are the two rows closest to the camera.

Easter weekend IMG_0145

3. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.” The first was better, but this was still a feel-good movie.

Easter weekend

4. Sunrise service. It’s outside by the water (very untraditional) and everyone brings blankets to sit on the lawn. Even my dog gets to come!

5. Post-sunrise service nap, because a 5:45 a.m. wakeup call on a Sunday requires it.

6. Easter baskets with a “natural, chemical-free” theme (minus the chocolate). My Easter bunny rocks.

7. Someone came home for the weekend! That someone is my sister, by the way. She would like you to know that both pairs of shoes are hers because I pretty much only own sneakers and flip-flops.

Easter weekend

8. How cute are these centerpieces? My sister made them but I did buy the materials.

Easter weekend

9. Dinner round 1. I like orange food, apparently. I take credit for the sweet potatoes and chopping the vegetables.

10. Ended the night with more March Madness, Jeopardy and puppy cuddles. Get like me.

Have a great Monday!

Linking up to MIMM…Thanks for hosting, Katie!

Did you celebrate Easter? What are your family traditions?
What’s your favorite color-group of food? Orange or green for me.
What was the last movie you saw in theaters? I saw Whiskey Tango Foxtrot last week but before that it was the last Hunger Games movie.

Mmmmm orange food :D Happy Easter! Looks like a fantastic weekend. I want to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2–but first I need to watch the first with Alex–he’s never seen it! HOW CAN HE LIVE

I just saw the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding a couple of weeks ago. It’s one of my mom’s favorites but I had never seen it. I loved it and can’t wait to see the new one. I’m glad you had a great weekend!

It’s one of my all-time favorites! The 2nd is definitely not as good (at least I didn’t think so).

This sounds like the best Easter Sunday! I wasn’t able to spend it with family this year and while I did do my own thing, it wasn’t entirely the same :)

    • Emily says

      March 28, 2016 at 4:58 pm

That was me last year :( But hopefully that means next year is even better!

Your grown up Easter baskets are my favorite part! I’ve surprisingly never been to a sunrise service or at least that I can remember, which is really sad! I need to change that ASAP, but I did go to daily mass last week for the first time in probably 6 years and that was really really cool!

My sister and I joke that Easter baskets are better than Christmas gifts because they are unexpected and just the little “extras” we never buy. Major props for going to mass last week…I was really good in high school (because I went to a Catholic school and we had mass for Holy Week) but didn’t go this year.

I didn’t celebrate Easter this weekend… I have to wait until May to celebrate it, but after seeing your pics from your Easter I am so excited for Easter. Absolutely love that picture of you and your sister! I bought new heels this past weekend and it was the first time in years I have bought shoes other than running shoes or sandals haha,

I celebrated Easter with a long run with friends, then I napped before I headed into work. I did try to reflect on Jesus’ resurrection but did not go to church. I think my favorite color for food is purple. Blueberries, beets, purple potatoes. My favorite! I’m glad you had a great Easter!

I did some serious Easter eating this weekend. My family had our big dinner Saturday because that’s when family could make it. Then my immediate family did a big breakfast Sunday morning before I headed back to my house, so I could join the BF’s family for their Easter dinner. YUM. I’m still full.

    Stopping over from MIMM.

    • Emily says

      March 28, 2016 at 4:51 pm

Thanks for stopping by! Sometimes I wish we did a big Easter breakfast instead of brunch (because most of the brunch food is lunch/dinner like). Breakfast is the best! But all the food was great here too.

I dislike the color orange after having to wear it all through HS for my cheer uniform (Tigers!) but love orange food like you – salmon, carrots, and sweet potatoes can’t be beat. We don’t celebrate Easter but it was my mom’s birthday so my whole family went to dinner Saturday, plus both mine and my brother’s “other halves” for the first time all 6 of us together, and it was lovely! I wore tennis shoes with my dress though. Props to you for being able to walk in those shoes ;)

Haha U Miami’s colors are a horrific combo of orange and green so I’m sick of wearing it too. But both are my favorite food colors! That must have been so special to have everyone together for dinner. I know how rare it is as you get older. Oh and if I had to leave my house I wouldn’t have worn those shoes ;)

I am really wanting to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 but wondering if I should see it in theatres or just wait til it comes out on DVD as I’m hearing mixed reviews! The last movie we went and saw was Deadpool and we’re actually planning to go and see Zootopia (we love kids movies, haha!) this weekend for Jesse’s birthday in “Gold Class” which is pretty much a private cinema where you can order proper food/recline your chairs/have wine/beer etc because we’ve been talking about doing it for ages and haven’t gotten around to it!

Yeah it’s not Oscar worthy but you’ll leave feeling happy. I love the theaters that have those amenities! We have a few in the area but rarely go because they are a bit of a drive. The comfy, reclining seats make a huge difference!

We always make ribs on Easter, which isn’t very traditional, but I always look forward to it! We also make angel food cakes in the shape of bunnies. This year we saw my neighbors (who did an egg hunt when we were all little) do a beer hunt instead, since everyone in their family is 21 now! I thought that was clever.
