I’m not in an introduction mood but I’m giving myself an exception because it’s almost the weekend. Today, however, I’m sharing my favorite things….on a Thursday NOT on a Friday. Hope you were sitting down for that.
Now that we have my lame jokes out of the way, these are four of my new favorites things.
Give and Grub Food Truck
Last week I was introduced to the Give & Grub food truck in Tampa. Meet the coolest and most charitable food truck around. For every meal sold at the truck, one meal is donated to a child in the Tampa Bay area. And for every use of the hashtag #giveandgrub one meal is donated, too! The Laser Spine Institute launched the truck in late 2014 and has already delivered more than 150,000 meals to underprivileged children and families.
I visited the truck with my friend Christina on Thursday when it was parked outside the Tampa Bay Lightning arena. They go to Lightning games every Thursday and Saturday and travel throughout Tampa for the rest of the week, often visiting companies and special city-wide events. Unfortunately I couldn’t eat the food because none of it was gluten-free but I was happy to learn about the truck and how it’s impacted the community since it launched.
Such a simple concept that can positively influence thousands of people. If you’re in the Tampa area be sure to locate the truck!
Simple Mills
I’ve seen the brand Simple Mills across social media but finally tried one of their products last week. Simple Mills makes muffin, bread, cake, pancake, cookie and pizza mixes that are free of grain, gluten, soy, corn, dairy, and peanuts. Using an almond flour base with additional ingredients like coconut sugar, arrowroot and coconut flour, Simple Mills products are a prime example of a healthyish food. Simple, whole ingredients but no compromise on taste.
They sent me the banana muffin mix to try. They were a hit in my house! But first my dad had to make sure there wasn’t kale in it. I’m telling you, he asks every time I give him food. Top it with nut butter and coconut flakes and you have the best healthy treat.
Julian Bakery Paleo Bread
Before I get the paleo questions, no I’m not strict paleo…I just wanted to try this bread! It’s made with water, organic coconut flour, egg whites, psyllium seed powder, organic apple cider vinegar, potassium bicarbonate and salt. I liked it, but since I don’t have too much of a comparison to “regular” bread, I asked my mom to describe it: it didn’t fall apart like many brands of GF bread and eaten with avocado it was good. Note: we still haven’t try Canyon Bakehouse, which I heard is the best.
We ate it with eggs, avocado, zoodles and coodles (carrot noodles) for dinner.
The Day Beyoncé Turned Black
I watched this SNL clip the day after it aired but never got a chance to share it. Hopefully you’ve seen it already! I’ve been loving this season of SNL because of all the political skits, so throw in this one and the Rachel Green skit and I have a new favorite Sunday morning show. Yes, Sunday…God knows I don’t stay up late enough to watch SNL live. Even on Saturday’s.

I saw that sandwich last night on Instagram and it looks AMAZING-BALLS…I have seen Simple Mills on Instagram as well and I am glad that you enjoy the products…Muffins with nut butter are always a good decision! XOXO

You’d love their products! Perfect for snacks and treats.
HAHA I hadn’t seen that skit but that’s seriously hilarious! My favorite of all time is Kristen Wigg with her small hands in the Lawrence Welk show. She kills me

OMGGGGGG that was the best skit ever. In college my friends and I dressed up as them for Halloween. No one really got it but we had a lot of fun with bubbles and small hands
She is one of those SNL legends in my mind!
I’ve been wanting to try that bread! Unfortunately it’s not sold ANYWHERE near me! And shipping prices are CRAY. Glad you hear it’s good though!

If it wasn’t in my Whole Foods I probably wouldn’t have gone through the hassle of ordering it. But it was too convenient not to try!
Canyon Bakehouse bread is AMAZING. I just got some at Whole Foods are few days ago. Definitely try it if you get the chance!!
As soon as this loaf is done I’m going to buy some. Glad to hear you like it!
We have a food truck on campus that goes around to different spots on campus that I could use my meal plan with and I loved it. It was always so convenient when it was right outside from where I had class and it was even better when it was nice outside and I could eat it outside! I love seeing a food truck make a difference in a community :)

We had a few food trucks on campus too, but none were GF friendly. I have bad luck with them! But they are so convenient.
I’ve never eaten at a food truck before….wait, yes I have. Oh man I almost forgot about the Star Truck! It serves vegan comfort food and is SO GOOD! They grill the Mac and cheese and then top it with more cheese <3 I also have eaten from a bicycle food cart. That was really fun and super cheap!
My favorite SNL skits are the ones from 2008 with Sarah Palin/Tina Fey and Hillary Clinta/Amy Poehler. They were SO FUNNY!

Oh a bicycle food cart sounds cool and convenient!
The 2008 campaign will never get old! So far, this campaign has been pretty good.
I adore you. I want all the things, and that skit is HILARIOUS

Love the idea of that food truck! And I’d never heard of Simple Mills but will definitely be checking it out :)

You’d love their products! Sometimes my Whole Foods has their mixes but online is a safe bet.
That was one of my favorite skits. So freakin’ funny. Just a testament to how everyone loves to take things personally. That food truck sounds amazing. I remember Christina telling me about it and thinking it was the coolest thing.

I’ve shown that skit to so many people. Hilarious and eye-opening in a way.
Your opening line… I choked on my water. I’m easily amused in the morning, and I thought that was hilarious.
I miss the Kristin Wiig character Gilly! She was the best.

Yes! I watch re-runs of skits because the older ones are really funny too.
I haven’t watched that SNL clip yet! Thanks for posting it! Omg my favorite one is pretty much anything with Kristin Wiig. I love her “just kidding” clips. My dream is to become friends with Kristin… someday maybe! Haha.

Haha I love those too! So when you become friends with her, does that mean I’ll become friends with her too? :)
Hahaha I LOVE that skit. So funny! I went to a food truck festival where you could try a whole bunch of different food trucks a couple of summers ago, so that was pretty cool. Food festivals are my favorite festivals ;)

Aww I haven’t seen that skit! And apparently “the uploader has not made this video available in your country” so I can’t even watch it. Punked  And I’ve never eaten at a food truck – I feel like I’m missing out.

Oh no! I wish I could transport the video to you.
I totally need to try that muffin mix, love that it’s made with wholesome ingredients! I also gotta try that julian bakery bread, I’ve tried their coconut cereal flakes and they are amazing!
rachel @ athleticavocado recently posted…Paleo Elvis Breakfast Cobbler
I think I’ll have to order those cereal flakes online! The bread was in Whole Foods, which was lucky.
We have some awesome food trucks in Boston but I’ve never seen such a charitable one! That is so cool!!!
It’s the first I’ve heard of a charitable food truck too. I bet Boston has some good ones though.
Wow, I LOVE that idea of a food truck. I’ve always wanted to have a restaurant, and a food truck seems like a really cost-effective way to do it. It would definitely be a blessing to find a way to give meals to people too, while you are making meals for people.
Emily recently posted…Recovery Series VI: Despair to HOPE
I completely agree! It’s a fun, modern concept that gives back. Such a good combination.
That food truck is too cool – such an amazing concept! And that skit – i can’t even.
Seriously still laughing over that skit.
I’ve always wanted to eat at a food truck :/
Simple Mills is awesome! I’ve made their mixes to bring to friends and they were blown away by them being “healthy” :P
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine recently posted…Quinoa Chocolate Chip Cookies
That’s the same reaction my dad had! He didn’t believe it was healthy and without tons of sugar.
Yay for new faves and fun finds! I seriously want to try that Paleo bread! Looks delicious! And YES avocado makes everything even better! …also, you must try Canyon Bakehouse! I’m in love with their 7 grain bread! It’s gluten, dairy and soy free! …texture on point!
Cailee recently posted…10 Best Foods For Weight Loss!
Ah that’s so good to hear! Texture is my biggest complaint with GF breads.
I can’t remember which candidate it was, but there was an SNL skit from the 70’s making fun of someone’s debate failure. My parents and I quote it all the time! I also finally watched The Office/Hobbit spoof and laughed so hard!
