Once Upon A Time (capitalization for full effect, obviously) I said I would be posting Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Something was in the air this week because I posted Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Getting crazy over here!
I’m feeling the more light-hearted, life posts lately so this is Thinking Out Loud and Friday Favorites combined.
The Olympics
I’m kind of obsessed with the Olympics…and the World Cup…and pretty much anything that involves America or sports. Since these things only come around every four years and I have no clue if I’ll still be blogging the next time (hopefully!), this is my shot to profess my love. Let me have it.
Earlier this week Susie posted about the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and it reminded me that I was kind of there, too! Kind of, as in, my parents went and I stayed at the hotel with my Nana. BUT I was in the vicinity! Small technicality. Throwback photo of my parents…
Other Olympic-related memories: 2008 started my affinity with Michael Phelps and I NEEDED to watch every one of his events. We went to Maine in the middle of that Olympics to go whitewater rafting and I remember running to the lodge at random hours to watch him swim. I even bought a shirt with his name on it…and I still own it.
I have such an admiration for the athletes and I’m looking forward to a great two weeks of hopefully Zika and dirty-water free activity. My favorite sports to watch: track and field, swimming and diving, gymnastics, basketball and beach volleyball. What are your favorite events?
Dogs
Archie has gotten so big! He still doesn’t weigh much (despite loving his food), but he’s taller and broader. Other than going crazy from the hours of 4-6 p.m. and not sitting still for photos, he’s a very good dog. Rocco has taken a liking tolerance to him, too.
They’re cute together :)
Instagram Stories
So what do we think of the new Instagram Stories? I was just getting a hang of Snapchat (@healthyishlife) and then they go and introduce this thing. It has been fun hearing people’s voices though! I’m not sure how often I’ll use it vs. Snapchat because, hello, no filters. Edited to add: apparently there are filters? How do I use them?
Nail Fail
An important update from my post on Monday. I mentioned buying the Essie Gel Couture nail polish and the claim was it should last 14 days chip-free. I made it six and then all hell broke loose. Six days, including two times in the pool, daily showers and regular daily activity. I’m trying to justify the purchase to myself. It was only $12 so not a huge deal, but kind of a disappointment because I thought it was magical.
Have a great weekend! Check back next week for a fun workout and running update (long story).
*Linking up with Heather. Thanks for hosting!*
You were totally there. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise :D

Seriously. Just fine print.
I also love the Olympics!!! My favorite summer events are gymnastics, swimming (watching diving makes me so nervous though), track + field, and soccer! I like the summer events more than the winter ones, but enjoy watching in the winter more since there’s so much more time spent indoors. I heard from another person that the Essie gel polish isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Merp.

I agree with you about the winter v. summer! More time to watch in the winter.
Yes, bummer about the nail polish. But I’ll still probably use it again!
I’m so pumped for the Olympics!!! Gymnastics is always #1, but I also love the swimming/diving and weightlifting! And I totally love the Parade of Nations…I love seeing all the countries come together :P
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine recently posted…Friday Finisher 8/5/16
I love seeing everyone’s outfits during the Parade of Nations too! We lucked out with the US being “Estates Unidos” this year. Got to go to bed earlier haha
SO EXCITED FOR THE OLYMPICS!! I was seriously playing the olympic fanfares all day yesterday because I’m so pumped! (and I dedicated my entire post today to the Games..so yeah…)

I don’t think I’ve watched anything in the last 36 hours other than NBC haha
I love the Olympics! Watching some of the most talented, hardworking people in the world do what they do better than anyone else is SO INSPIRING.
And honestly, if my nail polish lasts 6 days through me doing dishes and cracking pistachios, I think I’ll be happy with it. Plus, my nails start to get too long after about a week anyway. :P
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday recently posted…Five Friday Favorites 08/05/16
I guess I am happy with the six days, considering 2-3 is normally the breaking point. Plus now I get to change the color, so that’s a win?
I bought that nail polish, but then I forgot to buy the top coat, ha! I’m pumped to use it, because like Ellen said, if I can get it to last 6 days I’m game. Mine usually lasts 30 seconds because I change too many diapers (meaning, I wash my hands every 30 seconds) and do too many dishes. So my options are hire a nanny or get fancy nail polish..
I agree! Usually it’s 2 days without a chip so this was definitely an improvement.
I totally agree with Ellen. Watching athletes that have worked so hard is really invigorating for me; though I will never be quite at that level. It’s going to be a wonderful week!
Your dogs get me every time. They are SO curly. <3

Reading about their training and then seeing it all come to fruition is so incredible!
I pick and choose which sports I watch with the Olympics. I’ve met Elizabeth Beisel (swimmer) because I dated one of her good friends in high school and I swam at a lot of the same meets as her so it’s especially exciting. I also love gymnastics, but I’m not a die-hard fan. That just fascinates me to watch the athletes move their bodies that way.

My cousin swam with Elizabeth Beisel! Watched her race last night. I’m always amazed by the gymnasts too. Like, can I just touch my toes, please?
I love the Olympics as well though my obsession has always been the gymnastics. I stayed up at odd times to watch Beijing and got mad at people reading spoilers off the Internet before the NBC screenings ;)
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl recently posted…Weekly Workouts and Updates 7/25-7/31
Uh I remember the spoilers. Hopefully that won’t be the case this year because there’s less of a time difference.
I haven’t played around with Instagram stories at all. I am so annoyed with all these social media platforms and don’t know what to keep up with! How do they even come through with a story on Instagram? Do you send them the same as Snapchat and can post them to a story? Obviously I haven’t even looked into it. So yeah, maybe I’ll get there, ha. I LOVE the Olympics. I think Winter is my favorite but gymnastics, swimming, and running will be the ones I aim to watch! I don’t have a DVR anymore or cable, so I told my parents to get ready and have their DVR free for me to tape things, lol. Have a great weekend!
I saw you started Instagram stories! Love hearing Annabelle laugh. Still don’t know what will come of it!
I’m super excited for the Olympics this year because I actually got to know a few Olympians at my undergrad!

Wow! That definitely ups the excitement. What athletes/sports?
Mostly rowers, because I rowed for my school one year!

I don’t get the whole Instagram story thing tbh. I would rather just watch snapchat stories! I’m so excited to watch the olympics this weekend :) And figures about that nailpolish! Nailpolish always chips for me :( Have a great weekend girl!
Alyssa recently posted…Top 3 Friday 8/5/16
Plus, snap stories seem to be funnier and more personal! At least so far. Hope you’re having a great weekend too :)
I LOVE the Olympics. I posted similarly on my blog today, haha. Also omg keep the cute dog pics coming! Thanks for the update on your nails. Since I’m going away and was feeling like treating myself I got a regular gel mani yesterday because I was getting frustrated with the at home stuff.
I might just get a regular gel manicure too. Something that won’t drive me crazy after a week!
So So So excited for the Olympics! I am going to be on vacation next week and when I found out we were going to be on vacation during the Olympics I had to make sure that there was going to be some kind of internet connection or TV so I can watch whenever I get a chance. Luckily we are in the clear! I love track + field, swimming, gymnastics, and volleyball, but I’ll usually watch whatever is on :)
Brie @ Lean, Clean, & Brie recently posted…Lessons from Bikram Hot Yoga
That was exactly what I did in Maine that year! Mine was pre-smart phone so I had no choice but to go to the main building to watch. Hope you had a fabulous birthday!
Good thing I didn’t order that nail polish! My friend really likes the Sally Hansen brand that lasts a long time…If you want something “gel” like again. They sell them at most pharmacies. And your pups are so stinking cute…My little Lucy is passed out on the porch from a long walk and swim on the beach!
ACKTIVE LIFE recently posted…#REALWomenWrinkle
I’ll have to look into that one! I just love Essie’s colors. What a happy summer day for Lucy!
Archie is so big! And still so adorable. Ugh nail polish makes me sad because it consistently chips on me.
I love snapchat but I still feel to shy and awkward to record videos of myself. I don’t know why but when a camera is on me I just freeze up.
Megan recently posted…10 things you don’t need in your life anymore
I’m still kind of shy when it comes to Snapchat too! A few times a week I’ll do a face-to-face conversation.
I’m totally with you on the Olympics! I never had too much of an interest in watching sports, but while I was in Spain, I became fully immersed in the Euro Cup! We went to bars at night whenever the games were on, drinking sangria and having fun. I ended having a toady blast actually watching the games which has carried the excitement over to the Olympics! I used to only watching gymnastics and diving, but this summer I’m pretty sure I will be glued to the television screen.
Archie is such a unique looking dog, and I think he is ridiculously cute!
Regarding snapchat, I’m so lost. I hardly use snapchat to begin with, but now there are stories on both apps. I’m starting to feel old and like I cannot keep up with the darn kids and their technology. ;)
Have a beautiful weekend, Emily! :)
Julia @ Drops of Jules recently posted…July Recent Reads
I remember that from when I was in Europe a few years ago! It was so fun to see other people get so excited that I got excited!
Archie was the “phantom” of his litter and we lucked out because I think he’s the cutest of the bunch.
I am also very excited about the Olympics! Swimming, gymnastics, track and equestrian are probably my favorite events to watch! I was also “kind of” there in 1996, lol, I was only 6 months old though so I had to stay with my Aunt while my parents went to the Games.
Sarah recently posted…August Goals
Small world! Lucky parents of ours ;)
Hahahahaha I just painted my nails and they’re looking similar now too..just can’t win haha! But I am certainly looknig forward to watching the olympics-specifically the show jumping and dressage & all the running events! Maybe I’ll have to repaint my nails while I watch haha!
Haha yes you’ll have plenty of time! There are events on 24/7 it seems.
The Olympics are really the only sporting event that I’ve always enjoyed watching my whole life.
Well, I am a sports fan but this takes it up a notch!
I’m not totally sure about the new Instagram story thing yet, either. I’ve noticed that lots of the bloggers I follow on my Blog insta are using it, while not many friends I follow on my personal Insta are at all. It’ll be interesting to see what ends up happening with it!
Liv @ Healthy Liv recently posted…Everything but the Kitchen Sink Granola
Same here! Most of my friends just use Snapchat. It’s been fun seeing the faces/hearing voices of Instagrammers though.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets a little obsessive when the Olympics roll around :D I was just in Colorado and visited the Training Center there – highly recommend it if you ever get the chance!
That’s so awesome! I’ve heard such cool things about that center.
