I’m home and it feels SO good. I could pretty much end this post right here because that’s my favorite thing this week. Unsurprisingly I have more to say so a traditional Friday Favorites is in order. Stay tuned for one last NYC post next week. Then I promise I’m done.
Friday Favorites
Thanks to Heather and Clare for hosting the link-up!
1. Home-cooked meals. I’ve had almond butter zoodles with raw salmon, roasted vegetables and tons of fresh fruit. Last night my mom made tomatoes stuffed with shredded chicken, grapes, carrots, sliced almonds, pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries. I’ve found heaven on earth and I’m never leaving.
2. Lazy days. I walked about 2,4000 steps on Wednesday and took three naps. I take R&R VERY seriously, especially after a long day of travel and getting home after midnight. It was glorious.
3. The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty.
I’m so proud of finishing another book this month (two might be a record for me). It’s a very easy summer read but I loved it and it kept me busy while flying this week. The book centers on a woman (Cecilia) who discovers a letter written to her from her husband only to be opened in the event of his death…but her husband is alive and well.
4. Successfully completing my first tempo run of marathon training. I still need to work on maintaining a consistent pace, as you can tell by these splits.
The workout was: 1 mile warm-up, 4 miles at 8:07/mile, 1 mile cooldown for a total of 6 miles. I’ll talk more about this in my recap on Sunday, but with the crazy humidity (a welcome gift home to me?) and this being my first ever tempo run, I’m very happy with the outcome.
On a somewhat related topic, I’m interested in buying a Garmin (or similar type of watch for running). Any suggestions?
5. Lastly, my favorite Instagram of the week…

The caption is included as part of my favorites. I’m pro-napping (and snacking) if you couldn’t tell.
That’s it from me. I have my first long run of marathon training tomorrow. I know I can do it (10 miles) it just always makes me a little nervous. Have a wonderful weekend!
I’m a napper when I can’t focus on what I am doing without shutting my eyes for a bit, but I am not an everyday napper. If I had a hard workout or a bad night of sleep then I usually need a nap as soon as I get a free moment. My favorite naps, though, are post-long run haha

Post-long run naps are a necessity! Well deserved too.
Ugh I’m totally not a napper, snacking however is my specialty :) And long run of 14 this weekend… here’s to hoping there’s minimal humidity HA

I heard it was hot but that there was a break from the humidity? Hopefully that was the case! Don’t worry, I nap enough for the both of us.
Those stuffed tomatoes look amazing!!

So easy and delicious! I will definitely be making them when I’m at school.
Enjoy the HOME! It always feels good to be there (and home cooked meals!)
Hahaha, I love the decline or steps ;) Good stuff!
I’m not a napper, but every once in a blue moon it will happen and it will be great!

Ah the meals…they have been fantastic! Well worth the wait.
So glad you’re home and enjoying life!! Killing it with that tempo- I need to work on consistent paces too.

I hate to be concerned with pace but I think getting a Garmin *might* help with maintaining pace in both faster and slower runs. I just don’t have a good concept of speed!
I had a Garmin for two years and really liked it. Earlier this year I got a Polar M400, which I’ve liked because it has a zillion different sport modes, so I can use it for everything, but I’ve found it has a really hard time hanging onto a GPS signal under less-than-ideal conditions (like running under a bridge, through a tunnel, etc. Garmins have trouble with that, too, but my Polar has had more). On the other hand, I’ve never had trouble finding a GPS signal with my Polar. As long as I’m standing still, it finds a signal in less than 60 seconds (usually less than 30 seconds), and it’ll hang onto that found signal for 20 minutes, whereas my Garmin could take 5-10 minutes to find a GPS signal, and if you didn’t start your timing right away (which you may not in the case of a race or something similar), it would lose the signal after about five minutes. To be fair, though, I bought that Garmin in 2012, so it’s entirely possible they’ve updated their technology since then.

THANK YOU for this! I’ve heard people have occasional issues finding a signal with their Garmin. I will have to look into their newer stuff.
I’m a big fan of naps! Sometimes you just need them! That book looks good! Coming from Friday Five! :)

Always nice to meet a fellow nap lover :) Hope you had a great weekend!
YAY for being home! I hope you enjoy some relaxation, as you fully deserve it. :) Have a wonderful weekend, Emily!

Hope you had an incredible BIRTHDAY weekend! YOU deserve it :)
I loved that book! Good for you for taking the time to really rest :) I am jealous of you being able to take three naps. I am definitely NOT a napper unless I am sick. If I am super tired I just go to bed extra early that night, but napping is not my thing.

I’m oddly very good at being lazy/resting. I may enjoy being active but I have no issue being a couch potato now and then. I guess that’s a good balance? ;)
I have also recently read ‘the husbands secret’ and found it to be a pretty fun/light read. The way the characters become more and more related to each other as the story goes on is what is the most interesting!
Have a great weekend <3.

That’s what I loved about it too. It was funny and entertaining…not much more I could ask for in a summer read.
I LOVED that book and I have read almost all hers! They are great summer reads. It is so hot here, I have been doing short runs and focusing on strength training lately. I will be doing more running next week. Naps…I love taking 15 minute naps in between clients. Yeah for being home and home cooked meals!

I want to read “Big Little Lies” next. I flew through this book, which is not common for me. Hope you had a great weekend and a slight relief from the heat :)
