It officially feels like summer here and I’m so happy. I’m knocking on wood as I type this. As for the weekend, I have plans both days with people I haven’t seen in a long time. Hopefully we can spend time outside in the sun. I’m also going to a really cool event on Saturday, which I’ll talk more about next week.
Keeping things short and sweet today with just a few things to share, Five Things Friday & Friday Favorites style.
5 Things I Ate
A Kale-Avocado salad from Juice Generation.
Whole Foods salad bar for lunch 4 days this week. #WholePaycheckLife.
Banana, almond butter, spinach, kale and ginger smoothie from Whole Foods. (See above hashtag).
Salmon, sweet potato and broccoli from The Little Beet. Classic “healthy” meal, I know. But I love it.
Watermelon. I go through at least a quarter of a full a watermelon a day. Sorry not sorry.
5 Things I Read
19 Signs You’re A Superior Asshole from the Northeast– Even though I haven’t lived in the Northeast in 6.5 years, part of me still feels roots here. I thought this was really funny and relatable if you’re from this area.
How to Survive Mercury Retrograde– So I’m just finding out about the Mercury Retrograde as soon as it’s over but it actually makes sense. Guess I’ll keep this in mind for the next go-around. What do you guys think of this? Do you believe it?
How Healthy is NYC?– I guess when you take into account how large the NYC Metro area is (all the boroughs, Northern New Jersey, etc.) this makes sense. Still, there are so many opportunities for fitness/healthy living in this area. This is the full report.
Leading By Example– This is why she is my favorite.
10 Sacrifices Every Parent Makes That No One Talks About– I sent this to my mom the other day and she enjoyed it. I think they’re pretty accurate from my viewpoint too :)
5 NYC Things I Did
Walked through to Macy’s in Herald Square with a friend. You can get lost in there for hours.
Ran along the Hudson River and went to Riverside Park (thanks to a suggestion from Heather!)
Confidently (!!!) gave someone directions. Thankfully it was to an area that I had just come from.
Ate dinner outside in Bryant Park.
Was almost touched by a rat in the subway. Ok, that’s kind of an exaggeration but it did come within 10 feet from me while I was waiting on the platform. Not cool.
5 Things Making Me Happy
Eating outside. I want to eat almost every meal outside during the summer.
Seeing friends from all different “stages” of life (kindergarten, elementary/middle school and college)
The sun. Enough said.
The Tampa Bay Lightning. I wish I could be home for the excitement of the Finals.
Buying 3 new pairs of comfortable flats for work. Thanks for all your suggestions!
That’s it for me this week. I hope you all have an awesome summer-filled weekend!
Wow, I never even heard of the Mercury Retorgrade! I usually blame weird stuff that happens on the Full Moon since we all seem to go a little crazy when there’s a full moon haha! Hope you have a great weekend!

Whole Foods has such delicious meals…they are pricey though! That salad looks amazing!

I love that northeast post..so true! My favorite: You prefer not to acknowledge the fact that you have emotions and do, on occasion, feel feelings. SO TRUE!
I loved that one too! Some of these were too accurate.
Haha, I still couldn’t give directions to anyone in DC and I was there for months :P
Haha, have to check out that NorthEasterners article ;)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine recently posted…Friday Finisher 6/12/15
Luckily the directions were just to walk a few blocks in one direction and take a left on a certain street. I got off easy ;)
Eating outside is the besttttt. I love taking my lunch outside and soaking up a little Vitamin D before I head back into the lab for hours, haha.
Also the #wholepaychecklife struggle is real, girl.

I eat lunch outside during work too and it’s the perfect break from a cold/fluorescent office.
I’m so glad you liked Riverside Park! You should check out the free summer sunset yoga classes they offer at one of the piers, they are awesome. Love the article about the northeast; when I first moved to the Midwest, I couldn’t figure out why strangers kept saying hi to me! Now I kind of like it.

You are the best! I will check that out. They had a concert stage set up for something so I want to look into that too.
Mercury retrograde really confuses me. Haha. I love your article about parenting sacrifices – definitely things I never even thought about! Hope you have a fabulous weekend in NYC – the weather is supposed to be perfect! I’ll be making my way in for a birthday brunch and housewarming party. Back to my old stomping grounds :)

The weather this weekend was SO perfect! I hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as I did mine :)
Hahaha that article about being from the northeast. YEP. I went through a mini identity crisis last night and freaked out about signing a lease for another year. It isn’t New England and never will be. One day I’ll get back there…
Thanks for including my post! You’re my favorite too :)
p.s. we need to start planning a time to hang out! Slash you should come to Rhode Island in July to run that half with me!
Sarah @pickyrunner recently posted…Summer without #Boatlife
At least you’ll be back in New England for vacation soon! I’m seriously considering running that half…just have to get approval from work first. Expect an email soon!
LOVE being outside and adore the parks in summer. I also have to test out that salad from Juice Generation for sure!

I wasn’t expecting to love their food options but they had a few different items I want to try! I’ve already gone back for that salad again.
SUPER small world — I know the girl who wrote that Superior Asshole article. Georgie and I went to college with her! :) Too funny.

Whhhat?! That’s crazy. Well she was spot on with her descriptions!
Envious of all your #WholePaycheck meals! The nearest Whole Foods to me currently is pretty far away, so I haven’t been in a while. Comfy flats for work sound like a must with all the walking you’re doing!
And my Internet has been super spotty so for some reason, your blog (and some others) has only been half loading for me so I haven’t been able to comment :( But I’ve been reading on my phone and enjoying hearing about your new work!
Liv @ Healthy Liv recently posted…Healthy Double Chocolate Zucchini Muffins
Spotty internet is one of my biggest pet peeves (first world problems lol) so I feel your pain. I haven’t put on heels since the first day of work, thank goodness!
I can’t get enough watermelon either! I buy one every time I go to the grocery

Same! It’s an absolute must. Especially this time of year.
I do not use the word “hate” at all, but I “hate” Mercury Retrograde! It totally screws with me and EVERYTHING that is describes seriously happened to me the past couple of weeks, so I am so so so happy that it is over with. Happy Friday dance! XOXO

I honestly had no clue about it until recently, but it does make sense. I’ll have to read more about it AND pay attention to when it comes up again. But I’m glad it’s over too. Hope you had a great weekend!
I’ve really loved keeping up with your adventures in NYC girly! I hope you have a relaxing weekend. :)

Thanks, friend :) It’s fun to make an online scrapbook of summer. Same to you! Hope you enjoyed your play!
I LOVE eating outside. And the sun. Yep that makes me happy. I love how after it rains in Colorado, the sun seems even brighter

I know we are supposed to “make our own sunshine” but the real sun makes everything SO much better.
I first heard about the Mercury Retrograde quite a few months ago, I was going through a period of feeling ‘ugh’ and ‘blah’ and just all around weird and someone told me that that often happens during the retrograde. I thought it was really interesting, but didn’t think much of it. But then in May I started to feel the same way again and then I found out it was the Mercury Retrograde again so now I totally believe it! I find it really fascinating too!
So jealous of all your Whole Foods meals. There’s a Whole Foods opening where I live next year and it may be dangerous haha!
Leah M @ love me, feed me recently posted…WIAW #18
I had a similar experience. A lot of “blahs” but I never thought too much of it until I read about it. YAY for a Whole Foods near you. It’s the best (ok, worst for your wallet) thing that could happen :)
oh yes!!! Gatorade is real.. or at least to me! i totally feel it.. all about staying FIRM and grounded when things go haywire — what do you think?
cait @pieceofcait recently posted…Cait approved: 6/12/15
I’m starting to think it’s real. I’m curious to see what happens during the next cycle!
HUGE, HUGE YES TO KALE! craving for some now in fact. I wish I could eat in the sun but I’m from singapore and it’s hot and humid all year round… I would just be sweating buckets if I sat out for just 10 minutes! x
Yup, that’s Florida’s weather too. Luckily while I’ve been in NYC this summer it hasn’t been too humid. Or maybe I’m just used to it by now!
I love whole foods salad bar but every time i go i spend over 20 bucks for one salad!
