The theme of the week: stomach issues. I *might* talk about this soon but just know that my stomach has been a pain in the ass stomach. Cramping and indigestion mainly. The other theme of the week: rain. STILL. For some crazy reason the weather people keep saying we are in a drought? I will never understand that because all it does is rain. Other than that, I successfully got in the mileage :)
Ft Myers Marathon Training Week 9
Sunday: 90 minute hot yoga class at a new-to-me studio. This was actually one of the worst experiences ever and I couldn’t focus on anything but surviving the heat. Minus the heat it would have been a very basic class. I’ll stick with my Baptiste hot yoga studio from now on.
Monday: 6.25 miles + a core class. It wasn’t exactly Pilates but we did some similar moves. We also did some lower body strength and stretching. I liked it a lot (because I did not sweat- hallelujah) and it fit perfectly into my class break.
Tuesday: 5.5 miles total including 4 x 1000 m, which is .62 miles. I did this on the treadmill and just set the machine to 8.0 so it was about a 7:30 min/mile pace. In between rounds I jogged the remaining .38 of the mile. 1 mile warmup + .5 mile cooldown (I was over the treadmill).
Wednesday: Taught spin. I added a tabata song into the playlist (one where it counts for you) and it was hard! At least I thought so.
Thursday: 6.5 miles w/ 5 tempo (@ 8ish min/mile). I really really hate doing tempo runs on the treadmill so instead of staying at a constant pace for 5 miles, I started at 6.8 mph and went up .1 every minute for 10 minutes and repeated that 4 times. 1 mile warm-up to start but I cut the cooldown short again because I was on the treadmill.
Friday: Spin class. I changed up my normal strength and/or yoga routine and went to a new-to-me studio for a 45 minute spin class. I definitely didn’t push myself hard (at all) because it was an “easy day” and used it more to keep my legs moving and to (selfishly) get new songs for my own classes.
Saturday: 16 miles @ 8:57 min/mile.
The first three miles felt so hard at a 9:30 pace and there was a lot of negative talk in the beginning. Guess I just needed to warm up. Negative split too (second half of the run was faster than the first).
Total: 34.25 miles, 2 spin classes, 1 yoga class
I have never done hot yoga. Great job on your runs. Have a great Sunday

Thank you! Hope you had a great weekend!
I love hot yoga and sweating like that, but I’ve been in a class and had the same feelings as you…sometimes when your mind isn’t in it, it is flipping HARD! I hope your stomach issues go away…been there too. Happy Sunday friend!

I should have brought a beach towel! I also made the mistake of wearing crops instead of spandex shorts…that *might* have made a difference.
I’ve never tried Hot Yoga either (although it doesn’t sound too pleasant!) but went to an inversions workshop this morning which was a lot of fun because inversions are my favourite poses.
Hope your stomach is feeling better too. It was brave of you to get your mileage in despite the discomfort as I know how horrid I feel during runs when my stomach is not my friend… xxx

I’ve been wanting to try an inversion workshop! I need all the practice I can get with those. Hope you have a great Monday xo
I’ve actually never tried hot yoga before. The thought of a really hot room just doesn’t sound pleasing and I think I would focus too much on the heat and not enough on my yoga flow instead.

Exactly my experience. I just wanted to survive!
What an awesome long run pace! I’m obviously not sure what your stomach problems are, but when my IBS flares up, I find taking one or two fiber pills can really help calm things down.

I’ve never looked into fiber pills, thanks for the suggestion!
Phew! It’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one who despises hot yoga. I always hear others praising how wonderful it is. Nope, not so much!
p.s. Hope your stomach issues start getting better.

Not only was the room so hot, but it was jam packed with people. That made it even hotter and stuffier. Thank you :)
