Marathon Monday & Life Lately

Happy MARATHON Monday! Who else will be watching the race today? The Boston Marathon is such an awesome day for the running community and it’s a (very) longterm goal of mine to run it. However, I’m in no rush to get there.

Now, let’s catch up…

I sure hope your weekend was better than mine. My Saturday was spent entirely in bed minus a 20 minute trip to get a smoothie and watermelon to soothe my throat. I started feeling sick on Friday afternoon and woke up Saturday feeling worse, think chills, sweating and sore throat. I was oddly really hungry and ate like I ran 10 miles when I walked like 10 steps. I did catch up on a bunch of shows (How To Get Away With Murder finale…jaw dropped) and finished a paper that I put off. Luckily, as I write this on Sunday night, I’m feeling better. Being sick away from home (really, my mom), sucks.

Life lately

True life: I went back to my apartment and mixed this smoothie with some Wild Friend’s because it tasted “too healthy” (as I described it to my mom). Not sure if it was the parsley or celery that threw me over the edge. Could barely taste the apple.

 

Speaking of home, I’m going home Thursday! Excited is an understatement. I have a long gap until my exams start so I planned this trip as a post-class, pre-exam treat. Plus, let’s be real, there’s no way I’d really study that long for an exam.

Last week was really stressful, more so mentally than physically. I was relying on some things that were out of my control and it was an extreme test of my lack of patience. Patience is something I really need to work on, in many different areas (dealing with traffic, long lines, waiting for someone to reply, food cooking, etc.). If anything, last week was a good lesson in learning to release control and let things happen when they happen.

It is officially too hot to function in Florida. Ok, that’s dramatic, but the heat has been brutal. I mentioned running outside but even sitting outside is rough. I sat outside by the pool for 25 minutes on Thursday before giving up. As everyone up north is gushing about the weather (rightfully so, you’ve had a rough winter and I WOULD NOT trade sides), I will be inside sitting by the A/C.

Life lately

College students: when are your exams? 
What makes you feel better when you’re sick? My dog and watermelon. Luckily, I had one with me this weekend.

    Yuck I’m sorry you were sick :( I hate being sick when I’m not near my mom too. And I am always starving when I’m sick which is usually the opposite for people! The thing that makes me feel better is childhood favorite movies and ice cream :) Feel better love.

      Right?! I feel like most people don’t have an appetite. Funny- I actually watched The Princess Diaries, I had tioved it a while ago for a lazy day. It did help :)

    Wasn’t HTGAWM fantastic?? I can’t wait for the new season to start! I loved every single episode and love how it ended. I’m currently watching the live stream at work (don’t tell my boss…shhh). It’s also my long long term goal to qualify!

    Awww I hope you’re feeling better today! I’m always strangely starving when I’m sick, but it’s our bodies way of trying to fight the sickness away. I WISH it was too hot to function here. We’re still in the low 60s here most days.

    Watching the Boston Marathon right now! It is so exciting!! I have two exams this week then a week in between until finals starts. So not looking forward to finals week, but looking forward to them all being over and summer break being here! Hope you feel better this week!

      I’m trying to get my taste buds acclimated to green juices/smoothies. So far I need some type of nut butter to make it taste good. Ah- so exciting about your marathon!!!!! Hope it’s an awesome race :)

      You must start much later! Or are you on the quarter system? My friends at different schools are done with their exams next week so I’m jealous of them!

    Whenever I’m sick I “think” I want really healthy food and when I make and I try to eat it, I seriously want to gag…I tried this a few weeks ago and failed, so instead I made really good bread with butter and honey and I felt AMAZING…HA! Hope you are back to almost feeling 100%!

      Yup, I gaged through most of that drink. Managed to finish half! After, I had oatmeal with almond butter and honey. Even in 100 degree weather it was perfect.

I have been needing to discuss this show with someone so your mention of it made me squeal. So good, right?! I am thrilled you get to go home this weekend, and I hope it as much as fun as you deserve.

    My exams aren’t until the second week of May, so I still have a few weeks to manage my way through. I hope yours go over well! We are in the home stretch now.
    When I am sick, I am a lllll about hot showers/baths. I could just sit there for ever, soaking in the heat.

      My jaw literally dropped at the end of the episode. I don’t know why/how it took me so long to catch up! Seriously can’t wait until it starts again. Oh hot showers/baths are a weakness of mine. Takes a lot of willpower to get out!

      My mom kept telling me it would make me feel better and my throat was really hurting (she was right, as usual). Glad I’m done with that!

    I do not miss that end of semester stress. But it does mean you’ll be closer to your summer in the North East (woop woop)
    I stood at the 26 mile marker yesterday and damn was it inspirational.
    I once got a green smoothie from whole foods and it was waay to green. I added a bit of honey because I didn’t want to be miserable after paying way to much for a smoothie.

      Expect an email from me this week regarding summer :) Oh I never even thought of honey! That would definitely be easier to stir in than the nut butter was. Thanks for the tip!
