As I mentioned last week, I’m focusing on setting intentions rather than goals for the new year. But that doesn’t mean I don’t plan ahead. Come on, planning is a mandatory trait of Type-A’s ;)
I like looking ahead to the near and distant future, even though I know there are unforeseen events beyond my control. 2015 is already shaping up to be a milestone year and I think I it can be a great year running wise. More importantly, I’m learning that it doesn’t have to be filled with races, PR’s or marathons in order for it to be successful.
This Saturday I am running a half marathon with my dad. Yep, this Saturday. It’s the Disney World Half Marathon. I’m not as prepared as I’d like to be for this race so I’m grateful for the lingering fitness I have from the marathon two months ago. I don’t have a goal time as I plan to run the entire race with my dad.
Up next, the Disney Princess Half Marathon at the end of February. No, I don’t only run Disney races! We just live so close and it’s a fun experience so I’ve done multiple races there. This race will be a girl’s weekend as my cousins and aunts are flying down to run too. There will be 8 of us running and 5 people cheering. After the half this weekend I’m going to assess if I want to maintain or train for this race.
That’s it for planned races in the first half of the year and I’m happy with it. I’m contemplating a fall marathon but this time I’m going to be picky in my requirements: small(er), not too expensive, close to home/short driving distance and allows time for recovery. Both of my marathons were large, super pricey, required some travel and were followed by school/obligations the next day. I don’t have my eyes on any particular race and might not do one at all. I’ll decide in a few months.
I hope to run a few 5ks and 10ks throughout the year because I really enjoy the race atmosphere. Those will most likely be decided at random.
Well this was a long-winded post but I wanted to add some focus and direction to my running. But, to be honest, it’s nice not having a strict focus and just running when I feel like it. Ah, now to find that balance. I should add THAT to my intentions for the year.
Do you plan your races/fitness for the year?
Have you been to Disney World? After the race in February I will have run at Disney 5 times. I’ve been to the parks 5 times too. I went to Disneyland a lot when I was little but I don’t remember the count!
Two Disney races – that will be fun! :) Good luck, can’t wait to see your recaps. I love that you have such a positive approach toward these races.. it’s great that you can just casually decide to run a half! Haha. =)

Thanks! I’m probably going to be dressing up for the Princess Half and wear a tutu and tiara :)
So funny, my Resident DIrector at my college is running in the DIsney Half marathon with you! Good luck and have plenty of fun, especially with the princess half marathon!
No way?! That’s awesome! It’s such a fun atmosphere.
Disney races look like so much fun! AH! I went to Disney once in 4th grade and it was the best (only) vacation ever! I love that place and would LOVE to run in one of the races one day!

Come visit me and we’ll go to Disney :)
I just spent last night planning my training for most of the year…so I totally get the planning part! I plan my races way ahead of time to work on getting the 50 States in, but I would like to do a few more local, shorter races this year. I have to say though – small marathons are so much fun! If you don’t feel burned out later in the year, I think doing one would be lots of fun.

I ran the full last year and loved the atmosphere! I only dressed up for the Princess Half but might throw something festive together last minute.
