It’s a new month. Time to get some things off my chest…
Confession: I feel like a lot of my posts lately have been extremely random and sometimes not my best work. This makes me sad/mad for a few reasons…1) I love this space, 2) I love writing, 3) I love you guys and don’t want to be “just another blog.” I have some plans for a blog projects and even a redesign, but I keep telling myself “I’ll do that after graduation.” Of course, that will turn into “oh, next week/month/etc.” I’m still waiting until after graduation for the bulk of my “blog transformation” but I want to make mini-changes now. New posts will be 3x a week instead of the 4-5 I was doing before. Not sure of the days yet, and they might vary every week. There’s A LOT I want/need to improve on so it will be a slow progression. I hope you still stick around :)
Confession: I watched the NYC Marathon yesterday and even though I had FOMO pains, I had a huge wave of excitement and motivation. A big congrats to all of the runners! The NYC Marathon, more so than the historic Boston Marathon, is the epitome of marathons to me. I have more of a connection to New York than any other major city and now to this race in particular. The fact that I’ve already done it is crazy, but I’ll be back…on a warmer, less windy day.
“If you are losing faith in the human race, go out and watch a marathon.” -Katherine Switzer. SO FREAKING TRUE.

#TBT (yes, on a Monday)
Confession: I love the Christmas decorations in stores. Sorry, I don’t think it’s too early now. It might be time to turn on the Christmas music soon…
Confession: It was 85 degrees + 87% humidity yesterday. Yesterday was November 1, by the way. I may “fake” complain about missing the fall, but I seriously love the sun and heat.
Confession: The extent of my Halloween celebrations was passing out KIND bars on campus for a healthy Halloween “treat.” Something so simple can make someone’s day…I love that and I love my job.
Confession: The time change threw me off. I L.O.V.E. that it’s light out in the morning now, but I wanted to go to bed at 7 p.m. because the sky was pitch black.
Confession: I’m mentally preparing myself for this coming Sunday (aka the day I was supposed to run my marathon). I’m not a special snowflake who is the only one injured, but it still sucks. Actually, I’m already scared about re-injuring myself once I come back. I guess it’s too early to worry about that, but hey, it’s confession time.
*Linking up to MIMM*
I was soooo ready for bed by the time I finished eating dinner last night too! I love that it is somewhat light out when I go for a run in the morning now, but I am so tired so much earlier now as a result. As if I didn’t already go to bed early enough…. haha

I woke up at 5:30 this morning because of the light! But now it’s 4:30 and it feels like the sun is setting.
I would have loved to get a KIND bar for Halloween! Love those things! I agree, I hate the time change. It was pitch black here before 5:30 last night. I can’t take it!
Sam @ See Sam Run recently posted…Halloweekend 2015
I like that the time change is a good justification for going to bed earlier, but even I can’t go to sleep that early.
Passing out KIND bars for Halloween is awesome! I’m sure the other students loved it :) I was in D.C. for Halloween and I was at an leadership conference, so not quite the typical Halloween, either.
My goal is to post 3x per week, but I never want my blog to feel like something I HAVE to do, because I aways want to enjoy it as much as I did when I started. Because if I stop enjoying it…I feel like I’m losing sight of why I do it! So I don’t get too worried if I can’t quite do 3 posts per week, although I do also want to be somewhat consistent for my readers!
Liv @ Healthy Liv recently posted…Conference Weekend in D.C.
I struggle with the consistency vs. enjoying posting too. But I think enjoying it takes priority at this time!
Confession-I’m listening to Christmas music right now. 1 month is just not enough time to listen to all the great songs out there! Wasn’t the marathon amazing!? I love that quote by Kathrine. One of my favorites.
AGREED! I need to start now to warm up my vocal chords for when it gets closer too.
The whole time change thing is still throwing me off. I go to bed super early because the dark/cold just makes me wanna curl up and sleep haha!
I love that quote, I think it is so so true. I have grown up watching the London Marathon as it’s something my dad runs every year and something I hope to one day do myself too!
Sadly I didn’t do anything special for halloween as I was working all weekend, but I did love seeing all the kids dressed up:)

I went to the mall on Saturday and loved seeing kids dressed up! So special that you have a connection to the London Marathon. I hope you do get to run it one day!
I woke up on Sunday and my clock said 4:20…and I was wondering why my alarm didn’t go off at 4 like it should. Then I looked at my phone and it was only “3:20”! Haha! I forced myself to accept the extra 40 minutes :P

Why do you have an alarm set for 4 a.m. on a Sunday, missy?!? Sleep!
I’m completely with ya on the Christmas. I was secretly listening to holiday music in October. I just love the vibes and happy feelings! Also, I definitely went to bed at 7 pm last night because I was completely thrown off!
As for my blogging posts, I don’t really have a schedule, but I’d say i average four posts a week. I try not to beat myself up if it’s less though. School comes first and if the blog has to stay quiet for a bit, not biggie. Readers will understand! :) I’ll stick around for ya, no matter what. Even if it’s a post a month.
Have a great week, Emily!

I love that I’m not alone in the Christmas thing. Why not celebrate as much as we can?! :)
I can’t believe it’s November 2nd already. I mean, Christmas is less than 2 months away! It’s still high 60s, low 70s here though so I’m not complaining. Perfect running/biking weather. I totally get you on being really sad when races you were looking forward to pass and you can’t run. That’s happened to me more times than I can count. And on the blogging front– SAME. I’m really glad I switched to 3ish days a week. it just works better for me even though I still am working on the quality part haha

I’m glad you guys have been having nice weather too! Probably that El Nino thing (or whatever it’s called…I’m not too sure). Lately I’ve been very chatty so my posts haven’t been as “deep.” It comes and goes I guess!
I’m having the same problem with my blogging – big plans, but so much to do that my posts don’t always get quite as much love and care as they should in an effort to keep posting. I’ve used too many excuses over this year and would rather have SOMEthing up than nothing, but I know there are days when my quality suffers. We’ll get there.
And this late fall summer resurgence is AWESOME.

It’s reassuring to hear that I’m not alone in my blogging “funk” (or something like that). We will get there, you’re right!
I try to post three times a week, sometimes it’s four, others it’s two. It just depends. I want to be one of those bloggers who posts daily but it’s very time consuming and I’m still working on that balance :)

Oh me too. And I don’t want to “post for the sake of posting.”
I am right there with you as far as the Christmas explosion in stores…everyone’s complaining about it, but I’m kind of okay with it. :)

I think now that Halloween is over I can openly admit that I love all the (very) pre-Christmas celebrations/music/decorations
Its never too early for Christmas… ;)
I love your blog and will definitely be tuning in as it develops for you. Don’t let it worry you too much at the moment though as Graduation is a pretty big milestone in the immediate future and after that you will have plenty of time (and free brain space!) to get creative and make changes. As long as you enjoy what you are doing with it, your readers will enjoy reading it!
xx

I started out posting 5 times a week, and then went down to 3, and now I usually do 2-3. I find that my posts are better and less “forced” when I do less. I love your blog so regardless I will be sticking around :) Also super cool that you work for Kind. Love those bars!
I love the quote from Katherine Switzer that is so incredibly true. Regardless of whether you are a runner or not, marathons are amazing to watch!
I have a goal to blog 5 days a week right now but I also don’t fault myself if I don’t have something planned. Some weeks I blog all 7 some weeks I blog only 4. It just depends on my schedule and creativity. I’d rather put out good posts than just ones that I’m putting out because I have to!

Handing out kind bars?! How fun! Would’ve loved to have those treats around instead of the Halloween candy ( I ate waaaay too much!)

I really am thinking too about my blogging schedule. I feel like, less could probably be more, in my case. I usually tend to write too fast and pump out posts too quickly without really tailoring them and thinking enough about my readers. I definitely agree with Hayley, that when I post less, I can think more about what I write and be more natural and let the thoughts flow instead of feeling pressured to post. The funny thing is that the pressure to post comes from me, not from anybody else. O_O I like your posts Emily, so whatever you decide, I’ll still be following along. I actually find that my most favorite bloggers to follow post about 2-4 times a week, and it’s easier for me to catch up. But I also think that each blogger has something completely different that works for them. :)

Oh the time change has totally thrown me off…I couldn’t fall asleep last night, but woke up at 5:00 AM…No clue how that happened…But hoping to get back on schedule asap, because I’m a little out of it today. Can’t believe how warm it is down there…it was in the 60’s up here today and I am not complaining.

I’m the campus ambassador for KIND so I get to do that a lot :) It’s a great part time job!
I left work at 5 today, and it was so depressing to watch the sun set on my commute home! I don’t mind running in the dark, but it sure is a downer to be at work pretty much the whole time there is daylight.

I got out of class at 5 today and felt like I wasted a full day of sun! Stinks to be inside all day.
My mom completed a triathalon this past summer so I totally agree, you can’t lose faith in the human race after seeing something like that. But Im so with you on the Christmas Decorations, I am so flip flopping excited myself! So sorry about the injury but there really IS always here.

Congrats to your mom! That’s awesome! Yes, I’m hopeful that next year can be my year :)
It can be hard when you have things you want to do/improve but are in a part of life where you are just too busy…. so be patient and kind to yourself! The time will come when you can make the changes you’d like to. To me – your blog still looks and reads wonderfully (we really are our own worst critics) so we will all still be here regardless! And that time change.. man.. I had a hard enough time staying up past 8 before it, so now…. there’s just no hope.
Lilly recently posted…Week in Review: Ending off October
Thanks, Lilly! You’re right that we are all our own worst critics. Sometimes taking a step back is helpful. Oh, my bed time just got moved up an hour because of the time change ha
I am right there with you – can it please be socially acceptable to go to sleep at 730PM? I fall asleep at my desk at work around 5 because it’s so dark so early! I miss the long days of summer, but running in the sunlight before work definitely makes for an easier adjustment.
Jamie recently posted…NYCM Thoughts
Same thing with me in class! I literally almost said “it’s too dark out, I have to leave now.”
I had to go out after dinner last night to the grocery store and honestly felt like I was going out at midnight it was so dark! I do like lighter in the mornings, though. I loved watching the NYC marathon but I think I love Boston more, ha. I don’t know- it’s a toss up. I’m just glad they are both on TV :)

Right?! I don’t want to leave my apartment after 6 p.m. now! I love that they are televised too. So inspirational.
How awesome that you handed out KIND bars for Halloween! I have mixed feelings about the time change. I love that it’s light by 7 am now, but it’s super depressing that the sun sets by 5pm. There’s so much light in Seattle during the summer, but it’s so dark during the winter months!
Laura @ This Runner’s Recipes recently posted…Why I Became a RRCA Certified Running Coach
Completely agree with the time change. So nice to wake up to the sun, but it messes things up for the night.
i would love to get a KIND bar for a halloween treat! Yum- that would be better than candy for me!! I bet running the NYC marathon was so cool! I’m not huge fan of super early christmas decorations out already, but I guess it really gets you in the spirit and will come sooner that I realize. I also really want to post more and re-vamp my blog more, but school, sleep, and exercising always comes first.
Kerri Mcgrail recently posted…Milwaukee Running Festival Half Marathon: Race Recap
That is my thought process too…there are other things that take priority over the blog. But there will be time for a re-vamp, soon!
Drove home at 5pm and it was dark…. waaaah! At least it’s still warm up here.
So excited to see what the future holds for your blog. I absolutely love reading it whatever frequency it gets to me <3
