I’m combining the Friday Feature from last week into Friday Favorites. Sound good? That lasted long. I just have too much to share…
I made it my goal to hit up all of my favorite places while I’m in Tampa and I successfully knocked a few more off my list this week. It’s fun having this little staycation, even though it’s too hot to be outside by the pool. Don’t get me started with the heat. I choose to go to a school even farther south so I’m in for more brutal weather next week. I digress…
FAVORITES. A little bit of food, fitness and life (the usual), starting with my go-to Spinning studio in town, Soho Cycle.
Soho Cycle
My mom, sister and I have been going to Soho Cycle for a few years now but it’s been a hot-minute (actually, a hot year) since I’ve been last. There are a few things I love and a few things I don’t about this studio. Love: the environment, that they play music videos (of typically good, diverse songs) and the new bikes. Don’t love: the inconsistency of good instructors, meaning teachers don’t teach regularly (ex: the same person isn’t every Wed. at 7 a.m., at least that’s what seems to be the case) AND instructor quality is a hit or miss.
Unfortunately I didn’t love my class this week (so I guess this shouldn’t be a “Friday Favorite,” just humor me). The music was very average and the class was just boring overall. I don’t think my experience is indicative of all Soho Cycle classes (I’ve been to great ones), but I’m just being honest about the class this week.
Dubsmash
My new favorite app. Download it now. The basis of the app is to choose an audio recording from a list and then record a video of yourself dubbing the quote. There is a library full of songs, movie clips, famous quotes and more. It’s so fun to play around with and reason #100 why I should probably go back to school soon. Here’s a clip of my mom and I dubbing a quote from Mean Girls and me living up my Friends obsession.
Tampa Food Favorites: Rollin’ Oats & Village Health Market
As much as I love going to Whole Foods, I tend to go to smaller natural food markets to buy certain items (pre-packaged foods, nut butters, smoothies, snacks, etc.). Rollin’ Oats and Village Health are my two favorites markets in Tampa and I went to both this week to stock up on some staples. These stores have more gluten-free offerings than my Whole Foods, plus I’m pretty sure they are cheaper too.
Also, I got a 16 oz green juice smoothie (green juice over a banana) for $6 with tax. That’s more than $3 cheaper than NYC prices. Win.

Any other Today Show fans? I’m mildly obsessed with the Today Show (yes, I know it’s not “real news” blah, blah, blah). My mom and I watched this movie earlier this week and I loved it. Rachel McAdams is the lead and it’s a cute, lighthearted story of her role as a producer on a morning news show.
Pro Compression Sale
I’m not an ambassador, just a lover of their products. There is a huge end of summer sale and I bought this pair of compression leggings for $20 including shipping! I live in their knee socks so at least these tights will be a little more acceptable to wear out in public.
On tap for my last weekend at home (tear): 14 miles (hopefully), a block party and maybe some pool time. Enjoy your weekend!
*Linking up with Clare, and Heather!*
Hi Emily! Haha, those Dubsmash videos are great. I still haven’t downloaded it, but they look so fun… and I can definitely appreciate the Friends tribute. Thanks for linking up and I hope you have a great weekend!

I love watching dubsmash videos but still haven’t even downloaded the app myself. Hope you have a good weekend and can fit in some pool time!!

GET IT! The best little pick-me-up. Enjoy your vacation!
HAHAHA oh my God Emily if you could see the album of Dubsmash videos on my phone…. lmfao
I’m so sad to hear that about SOHO! I’ve actually never been, now I’m not sure I want to try haha. I’m not the biggest cycling fan so the class has to be amazing for me to attend.

UMMM send me some videos. I didn’t even upload the most embarrassing ones. Soho has been a hit or miss for me, but so many people love it. It just was not good music or instructor energy.
I love all things Rachel McAdams, so I need to see that movie! I used to watch The Today Show every morning but now Mickey Mouse is usually the show of choice around here, ahaha

I used to watch the Today Show every morning! I caught it at 7 a.m., though, so it was actual news when I was watching haha. I moved a year ago, though, and now I don’t have easy access to a TV in the morning, so no more Today Show with breakfast for me :( Sad day!

Freshman year I didn’t watch it often because my roommate would wake up later than me (small dorm room problems). I think they have it On Demand now actually haha
Wait I want to go to a spin class where they play music videos!! That is one of the most unique things I’ve ever heard!!!
Also– Totally live in those leggings from pro compression. Literally they are on par with my lululemon ones. I’m going to get myself a pair of the compression tights next.

I know a few places that play music videos…it really helps the class go by fast (well, most of the time). Good I’m so excited for the leggings to arrive!
Hahaha, so is the last one how loud you talk too ;)
I just go to my big grocery store every week, and this summer I still haven’t been to my own (only) favorite specialty store! I need to get there though!!!
And…I’m having a craving for a cycling class! Ugh!

Haha yup it’s pretty accurate ;) Have you tried Flywheel yet? Is there one in your area?
I haven’t watched a movie in so long, but I do want to see the Bradley Cooper one “The Silver Lining”. This weekend I am hoping to get in a 6 mile run + a dinner with some family friends + dog park + staying sane in this heat. Happy Friday friend!

Silver Linings Playbook is a great movie! (If that’s the one you’re referring to). I saw it twice in theaters. That sounds like a perfect weekend, enjoy!
Compression socks for life, although I agree that they do attract the occasional odd look in public…
That green smoothie looks incredibly refreshing! There isn’t much in terms of health food shops in the area where my parents live so I have actually been buying a few items like nut butters online recently. I’ve managed to get a few bargains this way though, once I had justified to myself that it is OK to buy in bulk (ie. 1kg of cashew butter….).
Have a lovely weekend :)

I usually buy nut butters online too. But I need to get better at buying in bulk or ordering jars in advance because I run out and need a new jar ASAP haha
Soho Cycle looks like fun! and that green juice looks delish… worth every penny! Happy Friday :)

It was a great mid-week pick-me-up :) Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Hahahah yessss. I love that you love dubsmash. I introduced my dad to it a while ago and for a good week he would send me them multiple times a day. I don’t know why but there”s something about it that’s so hilarious. Especially the friends ones!

My dad thought it was the funniest thing! He kept re-watching videos of himself and cracking up. Seeing him laugh made me laugh more.
I know my kids would love dubsmash! Who am I kidding, I would too and that’s why I’d better stay away! I have those pro compression leggings and no joke they are the most comfy ones I own.

It’s kind of embarrassing how much the app entertained me! Good to hear about the leggings, I’m looking forward to getting them in the mail.
Dubsmash is so funny. I really want to get those leggings too-it’s a steal!

I can’t remember the last time I spent only $20 on something online. Such a good deal!
Once I found an instructor I loved spin became my favorite workout. But then I ended up moving to another city and I’m trying to find a class I like. I remember going to a class one day sometime before the holidays and the instructor played all Christmas songs – like Jingle Bells, All I Want For Christmas, etc. I’ve never done it before.. but I had to leave in the middle of class because I couldn’t take it :\ The music really makes the class.
And that Dubsmash app is great. When my sister discovered it we spent all one night sending videos back and forth and laughing. It’s so much fun haha

I had a similar experience but with Halloween music. I’m a Spinning instructor myself so I really try to make the playlists the best I can, and ask for input from regulars.
