Yay Friday! This was a long, gray week and I’m so excited to not set an alarm tomorrow.
I have a few loose plans this weekend but I’m mostly hoping to spend time outside. It’s weird to not have any vacations or long weekend trips planned this summer. I’m ok with it because I’m one flight away from an otherwise free vacation come winter. Winter is when it will matter! But my office (and most of NYC) is a ghost town from June – August. I keep asking if anyone works here but me lol. Apparently after Labor Day is when the real fun begins.
I’m a sucker for rhymes so I was pretty pleased when I came up with the title of this post. It’s a twist on Friday Favorites so I’d love if you shared a recent favorite in the comments.
Try this if…you think you have no time for meditation.
Insight timer is the largest free library of meditations. You can sort by music, teachers, practices, and time-lengths. I meditate for 2-3 minutes in the mornings, which is nothing to most people but fits my life right now. If you’re at all curious about meditation I recommend starting here.
Try this if you…like smart humor.
Follow Dictionary.com on Twitter. They not only give a word of the day, but they also call out/correct people and companies for their choice of words.
Check out their blog too…it’s called “Everything After Z.”
Read this if..you love a girls’ night in.
Before you read you will need to subscribe. Girl’s Night In is a weekly email round-up of articles, products, and happy thoughts relating to self-care and wellness (and not the Goop version…see below). You’ll notice the apostrophe—there’s a focus on community and building strong relationships.
Read this if…you’ve ever heard of Goop.
But make sure you carve out some time. The Big Business of Being Gwyneth Paltrow is a good but lengthy profile of Goop, its founder, and the (elitist) wellness craze.
Buy this if…scrapbooking is too much work.
I’ve been using the 1 Second Everyday app for over a year now. The concept: take a 1 second video everyday for an entire year, and then you’ll have a year-long video montage! My first year went from June 21, 2017 – June 20, 2018 and I just started again last month.
After one year I had 23 videos of salmon, 44 of dogs, 30 of sunsets, and 20 from evenings sitting on the couch. There were some not-so-great moments too, but then intermittently you’ll see a video from the Super Bowl, or my marathon, or a vacation. It’s cool that my year ended right as I moved to the city because it really shows just how much can change in a year! I’d love to do it with a puppy or baby.
The app is $4.99 so that’s why it’s in the “buy” category. Here’s a quick scroll through of my videos. The actual video is nearly 6 minutes and too large to upload (and kind of embarrassing).
Have a wonderful weekend and think positive Mercury Retrograde thoughts.
