How great does it feel to start the work week on a Tuesday? Considering I don’t have Friday classes, it’s even more awesome.
Now that summer is unofficially over I’m (fittingly) read for a change. It’s weird because as much as I love summer I’m ready for it to end. I may only be saying that because it means I can soon walk outside without sweating like a madwoman. There are many inherent qualities about summer that we can’t hang on to year round (the weather, obviously) but many things we CAN continue to feel or do: the sense of adventure and freedom, fresh food, lazy days, time with family and friends….none of that has to end. Plus, we can add even more awesome things like football, holidays, pumpkins and cozy nights at home to the list.
Instead of fighting the change, I’m go to live in the season but take my favorite things about summer along with me. I think this change, and often resistance to change, happens with every season in life, literally and metaphorically speaking. Eventually things run their course and it’s time for something new, whether we like it or not. But we can always take the (best) parts of our past with us, right?
Onto my weekend.
Due to the weather, my plan for a long day at the beach was scrapped. I’m so over rainy season. I managed to get in some sun for an hour or so on Sunday but that’s it. I made up for it other ways…
Free yoga in Lululemon (free is a college student’s favorite word)
A very sweaty 4 miles along Ocean Drive in South Beach.
Jetset Pilates in South Beach. This is a megaformer class, equivalent to SLT in NYC. Now that I’ve been to three different studios I still prefer the studio in Tampa, Mantra. Still, it’s a great workout.
And the most entertaining part of the class? Seeing a woman walk in wearing workout clothes and high heels. Only in Miami would someone wear heels at 9 a.m. on a holiday to work out…
A green juice (kale, spinach, pineapple, apple and celery) from a super small, hard to find store called Under the Mango Tree. They also have a bunch of acai bowls but it was too crowded to sit and enjoy one inside.
And I ended the weekend catching up with some of my favorite people. Wish is was in person but the phone and FaceTime will have to do!
The pilates benches look so intimating to me! I would either fall off or break the thing. And those heels she was wearing were ridiculous – you’re working out, leave the heels at home! The best thing from my weekend was cliff jumping with my best friend! He came up to visit me from Maryland :)

Don’t worry, I did fall off :) I saw your Instagram from cliff jumping…so cool!
I am so with you on living in the season. There are things we can take from season to season with us, but some things run their course as there are new things for us to enjoy in a new season. I am excited for cider mill trips this fall!

I miss having actual seasons so much. Fall is the best!
I like the idea of bringing the best things from summer (basically relaxation) into fall! Just because life gets a little crazier when summer ends, it doesn’t mean we should forget to slow down and enjoy the season. Fall is pretty great, after all – and we can’t be “going” all the time, even when it feels like we should be.

Exactly! We should incorporate the easy-going attitude of summer year round. But add in the apples, cinnamon and pumpkin :)
So excited for football to be back this weekend – go Giants! Here’s to hoping this year’s better than last! And I am so envious of Under the Mango Tree… love love love. Totally need to visit! Have a fabulous Tuesday!!

You would love that place! I thought of you with their gourmet acai bowls.
I want to do yoga at lululemon! My favorite thing about fall used to be shopping and getting new clothes, now it’s probably putting on long sleeves to run finally! That moment will definitely be documented when it happens :)

I’ve always seen it advertised but finally went to a class! It wasn’t the hardest class, but I didn’t mind.
FOOTBALL YESSS!! Unfortunately Penn State had a huge upset, so I might have to rethink my stance on that..but I’m still excited for games! Yoga looks like fun- and trust me, even out of college FREE is the best word :)
Haha I thought that after I wrote that sentence. Free is always a good word.
I love fall. I will miss summer, but she will be back before we know it. OMG those shoes, they don’t even fit.. Sounds like you had a great weekend.. Have a great Tuesday!!!

Right?! She was squeezing her feet into something that was not practical or attractive really.
I do love fall but I also love summer. There are pros and cons to each season so we might as well embrace them as they come :)
NOTHING better than free yoga. Nothing.

If only they gave out free Lululemon products too…I can dream.
Totally agree with you about the changing seasons – I am ready for fall but I also love so many things about summer so I love what you said about carrying those over with you! I cracked up at the lady wearing heels…and the fact you took a picture of it! Haha. Glad you had a great weekend despite the rain.

I wish I got a picture of her outfit because that was something else. Together the combo was very interesting!
I agree-I enjoyed summer but I’m ready to move on! I’m excited for college football, but unfortunately we lost our first game (and school hasn’t even started yet!)

We normally lose most of our football games so I understand. Luckily we won the first one!
I am so happy to be away from that heat…ask me in a couple of months though how I am doing with the east coast winter…LOL!

You still have the beautiful fall months to enjoy. And you can always visit Florida :)
Hehe, the high heels ;)
I hate this transition. It’s like freezing in the morning and then 90+ in the day…what do I wear!!??? Hahahaha! (And of course all classrooms/labs are -277)

I hate how cold classrooms are! I have to bring a sweatshirt everywhere to throw on over my shorts and tank top (because outside is NOT sweatshirt weather).
I love absolutely everything about Fall and it is definitely my favourite season!
It’s also marking a few big transitions for me too though as I have started a job and moved away from home to experience the a bit of ‘big city’ London life…
You are right about carrying through the best of the summer season though and I’m desperate to pick up the blog again as I enjoyed working on it in the warmer months but it got sidelined in all of the activity!
Free yoga is the best yoga! xx

What an exciting (and probably scary) transition. All of my friends who studied abroad in London want to move there permanently now.
I’m so happy it’s football season, I went to our first game on Saturday- Go Bulls :) While I do love Summer, I agree I am ready for a change and excited for Fall ( or Florida Fall haha) and all the things that come with it.

Florida fall is very different but still a welcomed change :) I still wear boots and sweaters as often as I can.
I’ve definitely done the workout clothes/heels before when I go to a studio straight from work and forget to bring a change in shoes. I figure in San Francisco, anything goes! But looks like I’d fit in in Miami as well…

I can understand doing that coming from/going to work. This lady didn’t look like she was doing either of those, especially on Labor Day. But you’re right, anything goes in a city!
I PACKED my Mon-Thurs with classes and just barely managed to squeeze them all in so no Friday classes of for me, either! It’s kind of incredible (well, not on Thursdays when I’m have 5 back-to-back 1.5 hour classes) but it’s all worth it on Fridays! So long weekends = the GREATEST thing ever in existence this semester :)

Couldn’t agree more! Although I don’t have that rough of a Thursday- yikes!
I have a lululemon by me at school & need to get there for free yoga! I think its sat mornings at 8:30 which sometimes can be a little early for me when I have a long week- that smoothie looks so good! I love some good workout classes & running outside too! looks like a fun & active weekend!

This was the first time I’ve gone! I’ve always seen it advertised though. Mine was at 10:30, which was a good time for a Sunday morning.
I totally feel you about change. I love the idea of keeping the things you love and letting go of what you don’t. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about trying to live more seasonally, in that I allow myself to hustle and rest accordingly.
That juice looks so fresh and so green!
