Happy Monday! How about a quick recap of my marvelous weekend?
On Saturday I ran the Tampa International Airport 5k on the Runway. This was my first organized 5k since the good old days of cross country more than four years ago. My dad and his co-workers signed up to run it and because I planned to be home this weekend, I signed up too. It’s funny…I hate the annoyances of flying (specifically delays and American Airlines) but I have an odd fascination with watching planes and thought it would be cool to run so close to them.

From my Instagram
The run started at 8:30 a.m., which was way too late for my liking in the hot Florida months. It was the easiest course you could ever imagine…a straight line out and back on the runway, flat as a pancake. The way out was breezy, the way back felt like a desert.
My runs have been around 9 min/mile lately so I was pleasantly surprised to finish in 23:12. I was 1st in my age group and 66th out of 1300 runners. Obviously it was a small race and my time is not really fast at all but it made me curious what I could run if I actually incorporated speed work every once in a while. My 5k PR is around 21 (I think) but again, that was more than four years ago. Do PR expire?!
There were mile markers but no clocks/splits. I should have run with Run Keeper but forgot. I would have liked to see what my time was for each mile. Overall, it was an awesome start to my Saturday morning! Low-key but great energy and a cool environment/course.
Two other weekend highlights:
Prom pictures for my beautiful sister.
Followed by Fresh Kitchen for dinner. I swear this place never gets old.

From my Instagram. Citrus chicken, tuna, honey-ginger carrots, coconut cauliflower, brown rice and kale slaw. Devoured.
Aww your sister looks so pretty! I actually hated my senior prom and didn’t go to junior prom haha so now I’m trying to make up for it by going to fancy-ish events every so often. But getting dressed up was fun! And I think your 5k time was great, especially for those hot Florida temps (that I’m forever jealous of). I’m glad you got to go home and spend some time with family :)

I hated most high school dances but prom was oddly one I really enjoyed. Maybe because it was the last one haha.
SUCH a cool race! I think I would die on it, though, simply because it would all be straight there and back. When I have long stretches to run, I usually get inside of my own head since I don’t have curves to distract me. You KILLED it though! <3
Also, your sister looks beautiful! That dress color looks gorgeous on her :)

Thanks, Christine! Yeah the straight out and back made it feel like an eternity. I will relay the message to her :)
So cool that the race was on a runway! I think I would’ve died with the straight-line out and back though :)
Your sister looks amazing! So fun that you got to be there for her prom pictures.
And that bowl looks SO good!

One of my least favorite cross country courses was straight out and back and although the terrain was different I got flashbacks!
What a fun 5k! Awesome job love!
And you’re sister looked beautiful! Love the color!
I didn’t go to my prom (it was on my birthday!) But I’ve always dreamed of wearing a prom gown….which never got to happen :(

Thank you! I still have both of my prom dresses saved and hopefully I can wear them again. I loved them!
First in your age group– way to go!! That is awesome! I had a blast at my senior prom and my dress is still in my closet and I have hopes that I’ll have an excuse to wear it again because I loved it.

I still have mine from junior and senior prom! Both are two of the few dresses that I absolutely love.
I am weirdly fascinated with watching plans land and take off. The whole flying thing…eh I have my moments, but not really a fan. That’s definitely kind of a cool 5K though. Yuck to prom…I went to a all girl high school, so finding a date was a nightmare. I don’t miss those days at all.

I could totally do without flying. But then again, I’ve never flown on a private plane. That could change my mind ;) Ah I went to an all girl high school too! Yes finding dates was incredibly stressful. I went with a friend both years.
Congrats on the awesome 5K time! I’m actually doing one this weekend, and I’m oddly worried my body has forgotten how to run fast or something. I tried to enjoy prom, but my date broke up with me the week before, so I don’t exactly have the best memories!

Thanks! I felt the same way…I wasn’t sure my body knew how to run faster than a 9 min/mile. Music helped a lot!
