Workouts 4/19 – 4/25

Check out my post on workout recaps from this week. I’m going to continue posting them for the time being but might incorporate them into other weekly posts.

After being sick last week, it felt good to be almost back to normal starting Monday. Still, I chose not to push intensity because I didn’t want any lingering germs to stop me from going home Thursday. I did break in my new Brooks (Ghost 7) this week. Safe to say I love this shoe. However, I’m really curious about Hoka One One and might experiment with them.

Oh and I ran my first organized 5k race in years yesterday! More on that tomorrow.

Sunday: 45 minute walk. After staying in bed all day Saturday I was antsy and wanted some light movement. It was hot (I feel like I’ll be saying that a lot from now on) so I drove to a mostly shaded area of town and brought a water bottle with me so I wouldn’t get dehydrated. It was just enough to transition away from sick mode.

Monday: 40 minute run/walk. It was Marathon Monday and even though I wanted to run, I knew it would be smarter to do a run/walk to ease back into it. I alternated 2 minutes of walking with 2 minutes of running (don’t know my pace). I’m sure glad I wasn’t running the actual marathon this year ;)

Tuesday: 5.5 mile run. I had more time this morning so I was able to wait until 6:30 to run (when the sun starts rising). The first 2 miles were hard and slow, but that’s expected after some time off. But it wasn’t impossible…proof that time off (for whatever reason) isn’t detrimental!

Wednesday: Spin. My second to last class! I can’t explain how much I prefer teaching/exercising in the morning compared to evenings. I’m a much more enthusiastic teacher (and person) in the morning and last semester’s night class was mentally and physically tough.

Thursday: 3 miles + strength circuit

I started with 2 miles at a relatively easy pace on the treadmill and then did 4 rounds of the following circuit:

.25 mile sprint
20 chest presses
20 RDL’s
20 tricep dips
20 push-ups (eventually on my knees)
1 minute plank

I really love doing these types of workouts, especially when I’m short on time. Like usual, my legs were sore from dead lifts the following day.

Friday: Off. Other than a quick 10 minute walk with my dog I was pretty lazy. It was glorious.

Saturday: TPA 5k on the Runway. Long story short (until tomorrow): It was hot, it was fun and I ran faster than planned.

Happy Sunday! xo

I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. That’s funny you have to bring water on your walks – I’m just getting to the point where I can possibly go for a walk without a jacket! I’m interested to hear more about that 5K, it’s such a unique idea.
