As the title of the posts suggests, I’ve been running on the treadmill a lot lately. Like a lot of people I run early in the morning before class/work/etc, and until the clocks “fall back” it is pitch dark outside. While I do sometimes run around the lit parts of campus I can only run the same 2 mile loop so many times. Anyway, the treadmill has become a go-to for weekday runs and I’m OK with that for now. I get to watch the news and/or sports, control the pace of the run and I enjoy the gym atmosphere because it isn’t overly crowded yet. Crowded gyms are not my thing.
Monday: Hot yoga. Because I switched last week’s long run to Sunday, Monday was a cross training day. I also treated myself to a massage. Wish I could get a massage after every long run single day.
Tuesday: 4 miles on the treadmill
Wednesday: 8 miles + spin. I hit the treadmill in the morning and went back to the gym later that night to teach spin. I typically do not work my hardest when teaching spin a) so I can talk and b) because it’s not my workout. It’s nice to get my legs moving in a different way though.
Thursday: 4.5 miles on the treadmill
Friday: Rest. After class I was sedentary for most of the day. A-OK for me.
Saturday: 14.5 miles. My longs run have felt great (I knocked on wood as I was typing this). Saturday was the first time my school’s running club had an organized long run this semester and I was so excited to join in. The longest anyone planned to run was 9 miles so I did 5.5 before I met them so I could just start and finish with them. (I was planning to do 6 but I didn’t wake up early enough. Skipping .5 miles never killed nobody). This run was literally and figuratively a refreshing change of pace. No music, a slower-for-me pace, casual talking and a new route. When I have people to run with I feel safer about running in certain areas, so I finally got a change of scenery. There was a water stop at a local park that had free Gatorade and water for anyone to use (saving grace!). It made me so happy to see all the other runners early in the morning.
Unfortunately the next few weekends my long runs will happen either out-of-town (at home) or on Sunday because of prior commitments. Jumping at the first chance I get to run with them again because while I do enjoy my solo runs, I’ve come to really love running with people too!
Sunday: Yoga or rest. I’m meeting some out-of-town family for a little so I’m not sure if I’ll make it to yoga. Also, my EAGLES are finally on so watching them takes priority over exercise.

Do you prefer running alone or with people?
Wow. Am I ever proud of you for running so long!
I prefer running alone, but I want to get involved with a running group at my school since I think it can be beneficial to run with others! Great job on a long run, I am still building up to that kind of distance!
